Slow cook oven

Options
I blew another cooker up literally just after Christmas so I invested in a lovely shiny new one with a slow cook oven.I've used the slow oven to do quite a few things but have yet to try a chicken in there..its great as it only uses the same leccy as my slow cooker did too.

It cooks to the same timings I've found as my slow cooker used to but I am a large chicken virgin lol, could never fit one in my old slowcooker unless I jointed it whereas I have a huge cast iron casserole I can use now in the oven sooooo...Oldstylers how long do you reckon for a fat old bird.. :) Weighs in at 2.4kg. and should I add any stock etc?? Any help would be much appreciated as I'm thinking I'll stick it in overnight if possible.

If anyone else has one of these and would like to throw any favourite recipes my way that would be great too many thanks.

My gas cooker has a slow cooker setting. Its a setting below the half mark. Many many moons ago I used to do chicken legs wirh veggies in it. They did not turn out very nice I am afraid to say. The meat is rather slimey, I have read the same with chicken slow cooked. Its for that reason that I always roastmy chickens.

I do a cut of brisket in the winter with onions and root veg and about a pint of stock. On about gas mark 6 for 30 minutes then slow cooked all day. Thats all I use mine for and now its light nights its rare we havea hot dinner.

    Thanks Linda :)
I know a lot of people do use a slow cooker to do their chickens but its so quiet atm on here I guess I'll have to use google instead.

My oven is where the pan drawer is usually and I just click a button,no settings just on or off its brill.

I do chickens in the slow cooker - no stock, just a halved onion & fresh herbs if there are any lying around the kitchen. You will get all the juices from the chicken to make gravy, and meat that will be falling off the carcass. Then you can make stock from the carcass as usual ;)

For your fat hen I would stick it in overnight and take it out maybe 7am- I usually do a chicken during the day while I'm at work.

Thanks Floss I ended up sticking it in at midnight and have just checked it and it looks done to me..
I chopped an onion and sat it on top dry and made a rub with
    2tspns paprika
    1 tspn salt
    1 tspn fresh lemon thyme
    1/2 tspn cayenne
    1/2 tsp ground black pepper

    smells divine :)
