Good evening everyone. Moving soon into a very small 1 bedroomed flat. Carpet at the moment. What would you replace with? Keep to carpet, lay laminate/wood flooring. Many thanks

If its a flat then keep in mind, hard floors will make a noise.
But i love real wood, all the way through with rugs on top that can if needed be changed easily.0 -

While I like the look of wood floors they can be very 'cold' and empty feeling. It rather depends on whether you like a minimalist sort of look or prefer cosy.
I've tried laminate and they have he same drawbacks as wood but look cheap too IMO.
Also agree that carpets will absorb sound better in a flat.0 -
agree - carpet with good quality underlay can minimise sound from flats below and prevent you getting complaints from them. it may not look as nice as floorboards - but it is a good sound insulator.0

Works both ways .............. in the interests of 'neighbourly harmony', it's not good for downstairs people when those above have laminate/wood flooring either.0

I would choose carpet everytime. I had laminate flooring for 6 years in my old house and when we moved we carpeted the obvious rooms. Its so much more cosy with carpets. A tip is to buy the best underlay your budget allows, you can really tell the difference between a thinner (cheaper) underlay and thicker, bouncier one .
I have no experience of wood floors though.Mummy to ds 29/12/06 dd 10/2/08 ds 25/5/11:Amy angel born too soon 18/11/12, always with me Emmie Faith:A15 projects in 2015 10/15completed0
