Advice Needed On Setting Up Basic Bank Accounts

Hi, My Ptnr & I Are Going Through I.V.A Process With Payplan, We Are Trying To Set Up A Joint Basic Bank Account, We Went To Nationwide For Application Form, And It States That We Cannot Open A Basic Account If We Are In a Process Of An I.V A. , Please Help Does Anyone Know Which Bank Or Building Society Would Help?

If you want to go to the Nationwide specifically, the policy apparently changed as of 1 July (though the paperwork was dated March 2007), but some people who are bankrupt have still been able to open accounts with them. Someone said the application form asks you to tick a box if you're bankrupt or have an IVA - they ticked the box, & the application was still accepted. If that is what the form looked like when you saw it, I don't think you've got anything to lose by ticking the box & asking to discuss your application with one of the staff in confidence.

I was in the process of applying for an IVA (now doing a self-managed dmp)and Nationwide let me open an account in January this year. I was completely up front with them and it was okay so good luck.
