  • Hi DFW's,

Monday already, the weekend really flew by! Yesterday was not an NSD, I took money out of ATM for school bus and petrol but resisted the temptation to buy anything else. No takeaways for the weekend again which is a big achievement for us. Organisation is definitely key, we tend to hit the takeaway due to lack of meal planning and pure laziness. But I have decided we are sticking to one treat a fortnight which suits for the weekends DD is with me, so she wont feel like she is missing out. I find it much easier to have NSD weekends when DD is with her dad.

Not much else to report, payday is this Friday so only 4 days to get through. Aiming for an NSD today and hopefully tomorrow too.

Better go and do some work! Enjoy your Monday :D

  • Well done on so many NSDs, that is brilliant! I'm going to aim for 2 NSDs this week :)

Decluttering is great! As well as earmarking things for eBay and charity shop, I also found a few things that I put away at the beginning of 2016 and forgot about - it was like going shopping in my own wardrobe!

Good job on the NSDs and the takeaway avoidance! We struggle with that because we're so time poor so if my husband is working late it throws all of the plans out the window and we end up making something easy but healthy for the kids and then by the time we sit down it's 9pm and we don't want to start cooking! Horrid cycle but a one per fortnight planned treat sounds like a good plan. I may try to implement that!

I really need to declutter too but I have no clue where to begin and I've already been moaning on other threads about struggling to keep up with the cleaning - must take one step at a time and formulate a plan! Ha

Thanks for dropping by JoJoC, hopefully we can stick to the fortnightly treat plan, my spending habits round food (both grocery and takeaways) are my downfall, trying hard to keep it in check, its much easier said than done though. On the declutter front I had great intentions to start on my clothes and not a bit done. DD mentioned she wants to do hers too so maybe she'll motivate me this week/weekend. Its more the thoughts of doing it than the actual task, if I could only just get started LOL.

Thanks GC, I'm avoiding shops as much as I can. I find if I go to shop to get milk I'll blink and €20 will be gone, I'm a sucker for special offers and treats! I might try living on cash, literally envelope budgeting, that way I cant go over budget. Decluttering is still on my task list, really hoping to get it done by this weekend! Hopefully I will find a few bits to ebay, although I think most will be heading to charity shop.

Maybe writing a list would help? I'm going to write a list (on my master spreadsheet which is growing arms and legs now!!) of things that I want to achieve and then I can prioritise them so that there's always something to get done rather than me just sitting thinking about where to start.

    Would that work for you?

  • Yes that might work JoJoC, thank you! I love lists. I also have a crazy spreadsheet with budgets, snowball calculator, savings tracker, debt tracker, etc, its literally got tabs and tabs of information on it now LOL. I'll add a "to do" list tab to it to motivate me!

  • Hi DFW's,

Another NSD yesterday, avoided shops completely. I was meant to drop into shop to get milk but my mother had bought too much so dropped 2 litres in to me :D! So that should save me from having to go anywhere near a shop til payday.

Good news story from yesterday : I got a tax refund letter, turns out I overpaid in 2016 by €194. I wasn't expecting to get anything back, I get it checked every year and its never wrong so never get a refund. And even more surprisingly it has already hit my bank account, it cleared this morning. I'm delighted with that, feels like free money. I am going to leave it in my account for the moment but will probably put it towards debt on payday. All my direct debits are paid and I really shouldn't have to spend anything until Friday, so setting myself a little challenge to try to keep my bank account balance as it is now until Friday! Hopefully nothing unexpected comes up.

YNAB is still going great, I have only 6 days left on my free trial. Its definitely made me a lot more conscious of where my money is going and stopping me making mindless purchases without checking the budget. I'm turning into a right miser LOL. I have the money in my budget to pay for the subscription but I'll wait until the 6 days are up and sign up then :D

Happy Tuesday to you all :A
