Help with windows 7

I've just installed Windows 7 in place of xp. I've also installed Office Xp 2002 but customised installation by only installing Word.
The problem is, I can't print, when I click on the print icon all I get is a save window come up. I've reinstalled the printer just to make sure all the files were correct, but still only get the 'Save file as' when I click on the print icon, I've also found that if I right click, print does not show, copy, cut and every thing else, but not print.
When I installed Windows 7 as I was not sure, I clicked on public computer rather than home as advised, could this have caused the problem with using word?
Can any one help please.

Just to go through a process of elimination - can you successfully print from other programs, e.g. from your internet browser?£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000

Sounds like it's more likely to be related to your printer installation than Windows itself. Do a search on your make/model of printer, you might need to download a new installation driver which is compatible with Windows 7.£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000

If you view all printers installed on your machine - are there more than one?
You can "print to a file" - where it will generate a word doc/image/pdf - instead of printing out to a real printer. If you've got one of these installed it would explain why the save-as dialog would come up.
If you can see your printer on there as well as a doc-writer (or similarly named one) right click on it and make it the default.

You were right, had to download a new driver to make the printer compatible with windows 7, thanks for that, a feeling of relief.:T0 -

And there was me feeling daft for completely overlooking the possibility of the suggestion Mirno made! Glad it worked though£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000

Usually if you have this problem in Adobe Acrobat, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Word, or other programs, make sure that the disable printing to file is unticked.
To do this:
Open the document you want to print.
From the File drop-down list top left, select Print.
Clear the Print to file check box which may be in the Advanced options in Print.
Click OK.
Also look at Devices and Printers in Control Panel and make sure your printers showing there and ticked as Default printer.0 -
