Taxation - New powerstations, or Free appliances ?

  • I've thought about this before, a few years ago i tried to find data on the total capacity and total cost FIT payments of all the solar panels in the UK and what this was in comparison to a power station.

It would also be interesting to see similar data on the total reduction in 'energy demand' off the mains grid and impact on energy prices if every bodies homes were insulated, every one had condensing boilers, low energy lights etc...

And also if there were projections of what schemes like ECO would have on total energy demand, price of energy and so on in the UK once completed vs. their cost.

If anyone knows if this is available it would be interesting to read.

Hello Captain. Not exactly what you were after, but this spreadsheet has a lot of data on energy consumption. Sections labelled 5 include household energy consumption/savings.

It's a couple of years old, but still interesting. Remember that over time the population has grown, the number of households has grown, but the number of occupants has dropped a bit:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/65990/7358-uk-housing-energy-fact-files-2012--tables.xls

I know that there is a good report out 'there' somewhere, because I've read it (couple of years ago) that goes into detail on all of this. My main rememberings, are that despite the population/household growth, over the last 4 or 5 decades, energy demand stayed relatively level due to improvements in white goods, boilers, insulation etc etc. Can't find the report now, but I'm sure it'll pop up eventually.
