Bankruptcy & insurance

I was discharged in Feb 2004 so ten years ago. Still, when I apply for contents insurance the question as to whether anyone named has been declared bankrupt is asked. There is no option to give dates etc and often insurance is turned down or overpriced.
Seems utterly ridiculous - anyone else had this issue?

Hi - the "has anyone in your household ever" question is just laziness on the part of comparison sites as far as I am concerned. I suggest you use the comparison site as though you are not BR and then call one of the better quoters direct (or go to their website) and get a quote that way. I did this and called the Co-op, they were not in the slightest interested in the fact I was an un-discharged BR - the only impact was that they were not prepared to offer me instalments, but then I knew that. The quote was no different BR or otherwise and in fact I saved money as I paid upfront. My needs are fairly basic and the quote for an average 3 bed family home (i.e with no Renoir's or Faberge jewellery) was just over 50 quid for contents only.
There is another thread in the stickes somewhere about BR tolerant insurance.0 -
