Is it really cheaper than from the supermarket?

Are there any better value vegbox companies?

I am pregnant and am determined to eat more plant food. At the moment I just buy from the supermarket but do you really get more food for less money with a vegbox company?

I had no idea what you were on about, I've never heard of buying a box of veg online. So I had a little look at the company you mentioned, and on first glance it seems slightly expensive.
Like you though, I'd use them if the value for money turned out to be rather good. So I also look forward to seeing what replies you get. I'm going to do some more googling whilst I wait, see what people are saying about them.
  • I'm not sure if they are cheaper but you get real quality produce, mostly all british. if it means paying a couple of quid more for local and seasonal produce then so be it. Quality is king after all.

I alternate between Abel and Cole and Riverford. Neither are cheaper than what I can get in the supermarket, but the quality is higher, I know the produce is organic, and it lasts AGES in the fridge!

At the moment I just order from Sainsburys because we order all our other shopping at the same time.

I would like MSE to spend more time on veg boxes, if there was a better option the the super markets?

I had a little look and the prices were much more expensive than I thought. A comparable(ish) shop with Asda and the supermarket was £9 cheaper! Tesco was £7 cheaper. Morrisons, £4.
I'll be sticking to the supermarkets I think, don't really care if it's organic or not. Despite what people try to tell me, I really can't taste any difference.

I was trying to give the local fruiterer a chance, and went there for a few weeks. But they were much, much more expensive, and the quality was just awful. Asda it is then!

I tend to agree, but if you have time go and do the shop yourself. You can hand pick the freshest ones etc.

I am still buying a little from Sainsburys some from Asda and most from Tesco. But it makes more sense to build up points from just one, fuel and everything. That is what this website is all about.

Depends also if you are buying organic veg or not. I try to buy organic for my kids, we have been Riverford customers since Sept and we love it. I think that our veg box is great value, quality and taste much better than supermarket. I wouldn't say they are cheaper but it works out more or less the same. We have a box with 7 types of veg that works out approx 1.5 per veg.

Organic means that your food is free from pesticides, antibiotics, harmful chemicals etc. It won' t taste different just because it is organic.

The nutrition is also not much difference. I am not so interested in organic if its a lot more expensive.
