Anybody better value than Reve Diamonds? Engagement Ring from a diamond dealer?

Hi all.

I am looking to get an engagement ring for my girlfriend. Aiming to propose next month.

I need some help. I want to buy something exceptional but to avoid Bond St prices, therefore I was looking for a way to buy direct form a diamond dealer…the problem is those people are difficult to find..maybe Belgium?

After a research on Google I've found one company Reve Diamonds who sell B2C online. I'm due to go on the 10th for an appointment in London.
Any thoughts about buying directly from diamond dealers? So far I haven't managed to find anybody that comes close to the value for money that they offer through their website.

Anybody knows any better?

Thanks for your help.

In Hockley, Birmingham, better known as the Jewellery Quarter, there are many places where you can have rings made to your specifications. You can choose your stone, tell them your ideas and agree a budget, and they will do the rest. You actually discuss what you want with the person who makes it.

The big advantage is that they cut out the supply chain, where mark-ups are huge for jewellery. In addition, there are many other businesses in the area where they don't manufacture, but do carry large stocks at decent prices.

    Thank you Guys!

I will look into it although I live in London and work in the city so a local dealer is more convenient for me

Will post here again after my appointment

I'll be looking out for news of your progress....

I too want to buy a diamond ring (eternity ring in 'my' case) and am trying to decide on the best place to get one.

I had heard about the jewellery quarter in Birmingham, but am also weary of some of the bad feedback I have read on this and other sites :-(
(I've got another thread on the forum raising this query).

Am happy to travel to Birmingham, or London (or even abroad) for best 'value' - not necessarily the cheapest.

So please let me/us know how you get on.

From personal experience, I can recommend Marlow's in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham.

They have a prominent shop by the clock tower roundabout. I used them to purchase my other half an eternity ring about 3 years ago. She then used them in the new year to buy my engagement ring (we're 2 girls getting married :D )

They specialise in diamonds and can be haggled down. Easy to deal with, ask them their best price and push for a further discount. They'll make it very clear when you've reached the best price.

I live in Birmingham and having visited most of the Jewellery Quarter shops, that's the best value I've found. I understand Hatton Garden in London has similar shops but I've never been there. Definitely worth the trip to Birmingham if you can.

  • Hi Again,

Thank you all for your help. I had my appointment..I believe I saved between £500 to £700 by buying directly from diamond dealers.

I was looking for a deal for a long time but I have always been very apprehensive about buying online, especially something of such high value. Thankfully they show their goods at the London diamond bourse...the place is the UK’s diamond exchange and operates a trading floor for diamond dealers in Hatton Graden. You can make an appointment with that company by phone or e mail.

I was told numerous times by friends to buy a GIA certified diamond and was happy that Reve Diamonds sells nothing but GIA. When visiting the London diamond bourse, they talked me through all the various styles of ring, I had a basic idea of what style I wanted by browsing the website, they took their time and I did not feel rushed at all. When it came down to choosing the diamond we compared 5 different stones each of them with different cut, carat weight, clarity and colour, I decided to go for a round cut 0.70ct G VS2 GIA diamond..I got it for about 20-30 per cent less the price I would pay on the high street.

I could not recommend reve diamond enough! The people are super nice the website is easy to use and the price is amazing... I will be recommending them to all my friends. I am happy I had the chance to see before I made up my mind

  • Reve's website is poor, sadly.

I suspect JohnDD (John Diamond Dealer??) is connected to Reve, maybe he'll take your advice on board!

I'll stand by my earlier post- Birmingham Jewellery Quarter (or Hatton Gardens if you're in London). The independent shops are very easy to deal with and there's the ability to haggle.
