    Hello there,

The Shelter website is a really useful resource. Here's a brief guide to a landlord's obligations: http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/private_renting/about_private_renting/landlords_responsibilities

It is unlikely that the landlady can do a great deal to get you out of the tenancy between now and the official end of your tenancy due to the length of time that is left. Although she has a right to request her money, there are situations where harassment may come in to play; you can find out more here:

    http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/private_renting/problems_with_renting/harassment_by_a_landlord

I really hope you find this information useful,

    Best wishes,

    David @ NDL.

put yourself in her shoes - maybe she needs the rent from you to pay her mortgage, or some other financial commitment she has.
at the end of the day, if that's her income it's like a salary - and how would you feel if your employer didn't pay your salary one month?

Cheers everyone, I'm not selling my stuff and I can't pay before I get my loan, so if she did send my file off to the solicitor, then I went down to the office on the day of my loan and paid off everything, what would happen?

and Danni R looking at your profile you are in no position to be so patronizing :)

I'm sorry that you feel i'm being patronising. Yep, I'm in debt, like quite a few people on this board. But I'm an adult and am paying it off (by selling my stuff if needed) and I dont get shirty letters or phone calls from the people I owe money to :D

@lovehackney Its not her money, she's just the manager for a "privately ran university leased" halls of residence.

Anyway I sent her an email today and she's agreed to defer it until i get my loan. Thanks for the help everyone

So yeah basically she is an absolute nightmare./QUOTE]

The cheek of her, eh, expecting you to keep to your side of the agreement that you willingly signed. Doesn't she understand, you can just spend your money on other things, and she should not assume that you'll do as you promised...

I think going through someone's personal belongings is towards nightmare territory as a landlord, yes.

He's sorted it now so your unhelpful comments are also redundant. What's the guidance about this forum...for help not judgement?
