Hi, I purchased an iPad for my partner using a finance scheme from Barclays. After losing my job I could not afford repayments so the direct debit was cancelled by my bank. The loan was taken out against my parents address as that is where I was living at the time of application but I since moved and so did not receive any correspondence. The amount I owed was roughly £100 when I stopped payments and my parents were bombarded with phone calls daily. My parents trying to help paid off the debt when Barclays had told them the debt had risen to £700, I did not want them to pay this, I would rather not take money from them. Did Barclays break the law by divulging information of my loan AND even allowing them to pay a debt in my name?

They shouldn't have divulged details of the debt to your parents.
But nothing wrong in accepting a payment from them.0 -
Agree with zx81 that they should not release any information but they have done nothing wrong accepting payment. Thanks to all that post!

I generally find that in these circumstance the parents have probably opened the post and then rung the finance company to pay the debt for there poor out of work child. Barclays will have been very careful in what they revealed but as the op didnt update the address or deal with the matter properly it is down to the OP not Barclays0

So you moved, failed to tell them of your new address to keep track of the loan and have now complained that your parents have paid your penalty fees.
Most people wouldn't end up moving out of their parents after losing their job and defaulting on loan payments, but there may be extenuating circumstances that explain this.0
