How do I cook a whole chicken in the slow cooker please? Is it the same as a joint of meat ie just a little water in the bottom?

I just put the whole chicken in without any liquid (you'll be surprised how much liquid comes out) I cook it on high for say 6 hours. The meat just falls off the bones. If you save the liquid that comes out of the chicken and let it go cold, you can skim the fat off the top, well it comes away in 1 solid piece, then use the stock to make a casserole another day.

I lived without a proper cooker for about ten years because I lived in a tiny flat with a kitchen about 5' x5' .

You can do pretty much everything in a microwave.

I also had a two ring electric plate, though I hardly ever used it.

I also had a Hinari Tiny Top (toaster oven). You can do things like roast meat, make cakes etc in these. They use very little power and you can pick them up cheaply on Ebay second hand.

IMO it's a myth that you 'need' a big oven.

Now the better weather is here things like couscous or bulgar wheat are nice with salady bits stirred through, eg chopped tomato, cucumber, spring onions, raw peppers (or cooked from a jar) etc.

Could also reheat tinned potatoes & baked beans in microwave and have with sliced cooked meats, either bought from SM or butchers or cooked in slow cooker.
