organic is it worth it?

I buy organic when I can. I grew up on a farm and seeing the workers put on full protective gear to spray the veg and being told not to go in the fields after spraying there is no way I'm eating lots of treated veg. I do understand that millions of people eat these veg and thrive on them but it's not for me.
It is all about what happening to these chemicals in the days and weeks after spraying.
You can add horseshit to the soil for organic vegetables - but would you eating it ?0 -

It's much cheaper to get organic food from local or national box schemes than the supermarkets.
I thought this should be the right website to talk about these things.
I have recently found out I am pregnant so would love to know the truth about organic and if its worth it.
There is this company for £15 per week said to be organic but very small box of fruit and veg.
organicdeliverycompany.co.uk/fruit-veg/fruit-vegetable-boxes/small-fruit-vegetable-box.html
Then there are loads of other non organic where you get twice the amount of veg for about half the price, yes the difference really is that much.
Is it worth it?
Can anyone post the best deals, is it already on MSE?0 -
There is absolutely no evidence that organic fruit & veg is nutritionally superior than non-organic. It might be better for the environment but that does not necessarily mean healthier for the consumer.
I have no opinion about organically-reared meat because I don't eat any.0 -
There is NO scientific research that states organic food is nutritionally superior; this is down to one simple fact; most soil in the developed world is contaminated, and has been for a long time, as before the organic brigade decided to come along, most food was sprayed with pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals.
Save your money, don't buy into the hype, there is no scientific proof - its all hearsay and gossip.0 -

So is there anywhere here on MSE that talks about best value fruit and veg delivery?
I like one of these companies compared with the last organic one works out a lot cheaper.
5adaybox.co.uk
but the supermarkets are probably cheaper, especially if you order other things at the same time.
I just like the thought of having a box delivered every week so you have to eat the fruit and veg left before the new is delivered, and if you get a mixed box you would get things you wouldnt normally order?0 -
You might want to take a look at this thread. You will find information about organic food in supermarkets, fruit/veg box delivery services and organic info in general.0

It doesn't taste as good and it can't be good for you to be eating animals that have been living in fear, pain, distress and full of illnesses.
Supermarket organic meat is probably not as good as proper farm meat, but it's much much better than non-organic.
Have you thought about giving up meat altogether?0 -
Just found and bumped the thread I started on organic food which has loads of info and lins. Used to have lots of posters too.0

The choice is to spend a bit more of real organic food (food just produced the way it always have done) or go to GMO, where studies have shown to give the eater cancer, skin problems, IBS, etc... Also Generically modified food is known to generically modified you when eaten. I think you need to to do your research into it, so that you can make sound decision based on the evidence prsented to you. There area loads out there.0
