Hi Elfy. I was just looking at another thread where you were saying you were faced with a job decision. I was wondering if you'd made a choice yet? And if so how is it going?

Thought I'd just pop by to say hi and how is it going.

    :)

Hi supersaver, thanks for popping in.

Yes... a decision was made on the job front.

It was for a full time supervisor job at the place I already work part time, but in a department I wasn't keen on working in because I couldn't envision the staff ever wanting to work with me.
But I applied for the position anyway, had the interview and was unsuccessful.
However... something better was offered to me.
I have been offered full time in yet a different department - to cover the position of the person that did get the supervisor role.
Win win situation in my opinion - I don't have to go work in a department/job that I was unsure about, yet was still given a 'promotion' from 20 hours a week to 39.5 hours a week, so I'm really pleased.
I've been on holiday the last week and today was my day off this week, so I'm back tomorrow starting my new job.
    Quite excited.
Sad to be leaving my old position, but looking forward to what the new job will bring me (especially the money!)

The manager told me I had an excellent reputation in store and that he has seen it himself and he really wants me to progress.
His initial idea was for my department supervisor to move over to the vacant supervisor position and for me to move up to supervisor in my own department. However she didn't want to move, and I don't blame her.
He also told me he expects me to apply for every other supervisor position if/when they come up.
A lot of people I work with aren't happy that I've been given full time because they all want full time and have been there longer, but my old/new department managers have told me just to ignore it. It's up to the store manager who he gives hours to, and he obviously believes I deserve them.

So yeah... thanks for stopping by... hopefully I'll have something good to report tomorrow, as well as reassessing my goals once again.
I seem really fickle because I'm constantly changing/adjusting my goals, but things around me is constantly changing atm that I don't know if I'm coming or going haha. Hopefully I can get it settled down now with my holiday gone and my new hours starting. We'll see.

    =)

  • Congratulations on the new job, Elfy. Sounds excellent, although I hope your colleagues don't give you too much of a hard time over it. Best just to ignore them - it'll soon blow over. Workplaces are a minefield when it comes to b!tchiness, but it'll soon be old news. Been at the brunt of that a few times myself - it's unavoidable. People are just jealous you're succeeding!

The full time wage will be a godsend, I imagine! Make sure you get yourself a couple well deserved treats out of the first payslip ;) x

    Thanks. I'm really chuffed.
Had a great first day. Went really quickly.
It's not the first time I've done full time, but it was a temporary thing over christmas time just to give more cover at such a busy time.
But now it's a permanent (well, providing I pass my 13 week probation doing it - every time anybody changes job role such as colleague to supervisor, supervisor to manager, part-time to full-time etc, they give it a review after 13 weeks and see how it's working out for everyone) thing this time. Felt funny, like I was only temporarily on the new department and going back to my old department tomorrow or something haha.

And, actually, funny you should say that, the first payslip is going to be even bigger than normal because they're changing the way they pay us.

I don't really understand the exact logistics, but basically, when we leave, we'll owe them a week's wages - so if we work 4 weeks, we only get paid for 3. This is because they are paying us this 4 week period for FIVE weeks. So I'll have an extra week in my wages.
And it gets better, because the week they're paying us for is for this current week.
So, as long as my contract gets changed in time, I'll have an extra 39.5 hours wages rather than an extra 20 hours wages

And as for the !!!!!iness... noone's bothered saying it to my face, so defo let them get on with it.
One woman has expressed her guttedness that I got it and she didn't, but also said fair play to me and that I obviously deserved it and everyone else is just jealous.
    But hey ho =)
