city financial

Well as the name suggests, I have been totally fooled!
I received a call from a lovely young man at city financial.
He informed me that my loan had been approved, he even told me how much I would be paying back each month!!
I specifically asked if they actually gave me the loan or were they brokers, he assured me they were not! !
I was talked into paying a £65 fee, he said this was purely down to the fact that I had bad credit.
He said that T&C would be sent to me, send back, money in account next day.
I then call city financial to get confirmation that they received them, he said yes.
I asked when money would go in, he then goes on to inform me that 'a lender' will be in touch! !
Thats when I realise they are in fact brokers!!
This only happened today, I keep hoping its going to be ok :(
Then I come across lots of people on here complaining about the very same people, I now know I've probably been scammed.
I don't know how these people sleep at night.

Did they send the T&C to you? There should be a bit in the T&C that tells you how to claim a refund.
  • They sent it by email which I printed off. But I am concerned about whether I will even be eligible for a refund because I signed it.
Stupidly it didn't read right yet I still went ahead and signed it anyway.
I guess that was down to desperation.
Has anyone actually got the loan or is it a total scam?
I guess I am still hoping and praying it will be ok :(

You'll get a refund if you follow their refund procedure.

Thy'll probably find you a loan, but it won't be one you want to take. It's most likely be a PDL.
  • Ok I will give it a try. A bank chargeback was mentioned to me yesterday, would that be better?

No. The broker will simply dispute it and it will be recharged, as you agreed to it in the sign up procedure.

    Ask for a refund.
  • Ok thanx will definitely do that. Can't let people like this get away with ripping us off
  • This happened to me as well a few years back and I went ahead and paid the £69.00 so called arrangement fee and never heard anything. I constantly emailed this company and was informed I would receive a refund within the next 28 days.
I didn't and then discovered the broker whom I think was called Magic Finance at the time changed names.

I managed to track down a phone no. and kept leaving urgent messages and emails and then threatened them with the Financial Ombudsman Office which seemed to do the trick.
They kept telling me a cheque was on its way. Again I had to do all the ringing to chase this up but I did eventually receive the refund.

Hopefully you will get your refund too but please stay away from any companies that request your bank details up front as they will be requiring an arrangement fee so that the can find you a suitable lender as if
  • Isn't it just sickening? I went to my bank this morning, explained the situation asked if a note could be put on file preventing them taking any more money.
They said that as id signed T&C they couldn't do anything! !
I had to contact city financial and ask them to take my details off their system.
Surprise surprise they wouldn't answer fone all day.
I went back to bank in desperation, they put me on the fone to the fraud people who advised me to cancel my card.
I am so annoyed with myself for being duped but you live and learn
  • Oh and for future reference they have added city financial to their dodgy company list, they weren't actually aware of them until today!! So thats one positive to come out of all this

As much people need to be careful handing out their bank details/cards to companies online, these "brokers" go beyond dodgy to outright scams.

I feel they need to be investigated and brought to book for running a scheme no better than a 419 fraudster really.

And they should be pretty easy to catch and charge with fraud.
