Tuesday 1st April - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending:money:

This thread sounds like a great idea.... Im new to money saving and wanting to be debt free.
Todays goals:
Packed lunch for everyone
Leaving my purse at home- get free tea/water at work but have often visited the vending machine for a coke or 2
Phone south east water to find out why my DD is up £5 for switching bank accounts but the years cost is the same
Phone very - cancel account which has not been used for a year to avoid temptation now things are tight
Portion control at dinner to avoid wastage
Good luck everyone0 -
Morning all! Haven't been on these forums for a while but time to get back to my money saving!
Pay rent
Make credit card payment
Buy £5 mobile phone top-up
Return ASOS order
Food shop at Aldi
Good luck to everyone!0 -
Happy April fools day DFW savers. I hope to many members are not made a fool of.
Ziggy, how are you feeling today? The tea out will be something to look forward too. A nice chat.
I have made scones and we have clotted cream and jam for an English tea at home. Just need the roses to bloom for an English garden.
The daffodils are a sign of warmer weather. Sunshine Easter yellow.
cam - cancelling your very account is a positive step..
You live in the same county of Hampshire as I do. I often wish we lived by the sea.
Good morning Georgette. It is very misty here so far.
Just been looking at our seedlings. Plants from small beginnings
Plans for today - well, I need to pull out the drawers and wash round the window. The pvc is looking like it needs a wash down in the bedroom. A spring clean.
So I carried on. I sorted out a large pile on the floor in the corner and now have a give/ throw out pile:0)
knitting, reading kindle, surveys and post code lottery.
Dinner - toad in the hole and cauliflower cheese. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Phone very - cancel account which has not been used for a year to avoid temptation now things are tight
I've just done the same (with Next account) I don't owe anything on it and don't need access to £2000 of credit.
I used to hate phoning companies and listening to their spiel about whatever deal/product/special offer they had to stop me closing my (settled) account but now I've had my *lightbulb moment* I am polite but firm on the telephone and it's quick and painless! In fact, it feels good to deal with things and tick them off my 'to do' list.
ps - ziggy2407 thanks for the newbie welcome. I can't emphasise enough what a great source of support and information this forum has been to me these past few weeks.Total debt March 2014: £11,194. Now £4,198.

Afternoon all,
Nice Spring morning. Hope everyone's managing to keep their hands on their pennies today.
Today's small positive money-saving things:
*Saved energy by doing laundry overnight on Economy 7 tariff, line-drying it, sharing bath water & using boiling water dregs in kettle to kill a few more weeds in our front paving.
*Emptied the worm composter.....if there's a messier job than this, I'm sure I don't know what it is. Lovely bucket of rich free worm compost gone onto the grapevine, worms returned to unit with lots of scraps & shredded bank statements to start production off again for the new gardening season.
*Potted up peppers, chillies, aubergines & physalis. Cloched the smallest ones in case it's cold tonight - the clear rigid plastic pots that olives come in make great little mini cloches. Free & keeps them out of landfill.
*Make stew using last of the rubber chicken & some veggies that are ready for using.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Refill little snack boxes with value raisins for work snacks....way cheaper than buying those ready-filled cardboard mini-boxes. (The tiny plastic boxes are 99p a pack from the 99p Shop).
*Pat self on back for not having the lounge fire on last night. It can't have been cold as I didn't even notice it hadn't been lit till we went up to bed!
*Use-it-up project still going well - currently working my way through a tube of bizarre lipgloss which claims to be a lip treatment......can't imagine what its therapeutic value is, as it's like applying glue.
*Do some knitting. I've promised this knitting order will be ready for Saturday night. I have done precisely 1/8 of it! Think I'll get the kettle on, find a film or something & just sit & knit like mad.
*Started a list of jobs for mr f because he ASKED ME FOR ONE!! I'm not going to let that opportunity slip by. There are 10 things on it already!
*Get all my admin-type/Post Office/errand sort of stuff ready for tomorrow when I've got the car. I only get the car usually on one weekday so I like to get everything done together while I have the opportunity (minimises petrol use plus parking charges).
OK, that's my list for today. Now I must knit socks.

Hi all,
Not much to report today. Nabbed a few freebies off the freebie board. Having a NSD. Breakfast, lunch and dinner from what we've got in, planned. Spending most of today frantically writing university work. Paying the fees isn't very MSE but I have to hope the increase in my earning potential will be!
Sending hugs to any who need them today0 -
Went to work. Took crackers and cheese for lunch and own teabags and sugar. Called in at the library and got out some books to save buying any. Have been for aquick walk along the canal while the sun is still shining. A lovely day. Tea will be from the freezer. Fed cat.!!Member 116 2 pound savers club:) 167 virtual sealed pot challenge:j0

Hello everyone, not posted for a few days but I've been lurking around. Hope everyone has enjoyed the sunny weather today?
Today I have:
No spend day (oh, how I love these now)
All meals from store
Prepared all lunches for tomorrow
Cleaned bathroom and attempted to sort out slow draining bath drain - tried baking soda and boiling water, does look cleaner, but I think there is something else blocking it further down. Going to give this a proper go when come back from hols.
Cleaned and organised one of the kitchen cupboards - found some fish paste hiding at the back, so used this for my lunch sandwiches. I've done really well using up stuff recently - you've inspired me on this one foxgloves!
Checked bank, probably the healthiest it has looked at this stage of the month in as long as I can remember. If it wasn't for us going away for a few days next week, I would be able to make a dint in the overdraft this month. Hopefully, if no hiccups, next month will be the same and for the first time since my LBM, I can actually start putting some extra money towards this goal. I'm also planning to get back to selling stuff on eBay and put this money towards the overdraft, recently, any money I've made on it has had to go on unplanned bills/general expenses.
No heating needed today and had all of the upstairs windows open for a few hours to air the house out (something I don't do enough of)
I love these daily threads and even though I may not post each day, I always try to have a quick look. You're all very inspiring and motivating - I've picked up lots of ideas and love reading about your days - thanks to all of youSPC # 348 2014-£169.07/2015 - £156.89
