Transfer of debt - Moorcroft Debt Recovery

I am on debt management with Stepchange and have made regular payments each month through Stepchange. My debt with Argos was handed over to FRS to which we moved our payments to them. I have now received a letter from Moorcroft Debt Recovery Limited with a £12 charge for their letter. I have telephoned them and they say they have taken it over as I am not making my payment. My payment have been agreed with Argos and FRS through stepchange. Can I refuse to pay Moorcroft and continue to make my payments to FRS or Argos? Why has the debt changed so many times with additional charges?

Tell Moorcroft to pi$$ off. You are paying the original creditor and this new group are nothing to do with you. Seek written confirmation from your original creditor as to who actually has the debt.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

Lenders like to make life as difficult as possible for you, but listen, tell me this, if I asked you for £12 for writing this reply, would you pay me ? No ? didn't think so, same goes for Moorcrap, don't pay them squat, write to argos and ask who who they have assigned your debt to, phone if you prefer, but never phone a DCA.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. hell would freeze over before I'd pay moorcrap a penny. If I get a dca charging for a computer generated letter, I usually invoice them the same amount for writing back. Admittedly none have ever paid me, but after a while they agree to drop the charge if I will do the same. It's all part of the game, don't let them bully you.0

Whilst I agree they can whistle for their £12 (unless it is allowed for in the contract) Moorcroft have already written to the OP advising they are now dealing with his case. The original creditor has no further obligation to write again. In the meantime, regardless of where they make payments to they will always be 'credited' to Moorcroft - all you achieve by paying the original creditor is save Moorcroft business banking fees and time - up to you I suppose but pretty pointless if you ask me.0 -

Make sure stepchange keep paying Argos unless the debt has actually been sold. Moroncroft can whistle.Still rolling rolling rolling......<

What will that achieve ?0 -
It will make sure the right people are paid. If Moroncroft think it isn't being paid while it is actually under a DMP, then they obviously haven't been given the correct details. Or the last collector hasn't been passing payments on properly. Paying a debt collector did no good last time as it just got passed on to the next lot.Still rolling rolling rolling......

Read post 5. The money will be credited as having been collected by them regardless of where the OP makes the payment. They will therefore earn commission on it without actually having to process the payment at all.
It could have been passed onto another DCA for any number of reasons.0 -
Even if true which is doubtful, no harm paying direct to Argos etc then. That way you will always know it is going to the right place not matter what. In fact it would be advisable because Mooncroft have a history of messing up and not passing payments on. Seen that first hand with these clowns.Still rolling rolling rolling......

This is correct and it is pointless contacting Argos because they have sold your debt to a collection agency, in this case I imagine that it was to stepchange, they could have sold it on to Moorcroft, but why if you were making regular and agreed payments to Stepchange. Have you been missing any by chance? In one part of your post you say: quote. "they have taken it over as I am not making my payment."0
