Das set up help please

Hi

I finally bit the bullet and plied for a das to stepchange on 23 January 2014. I have 18000 worth of debt. It seems to take ages to set up the das. I had my final checkpoint call on 10 march and still not heard anything from them.

I am constantly getting hassle from creditors am I'm getting scared as my blondes are just going up and up. Some have asked me to make token payments but stepchange have told me not to pay anyone.

Can anyone tell me about there experiences please. I'm getting desperate now and own more than I did when I started this process.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you know if Stepchange have informed your creditors that you are applying for a DAS? Do you know if 'intimation' has been placed on the DAS register yet?

Have stepchange told you where you are in the process? Has your proposal been submitted to to each of the creditors? are you in the 21 day waiting period for the creditors to respond?
If you haven't spoken to stepchange since 10 March I would call them and ask for an update on your case.

  • Hi I spoke to stepchange this morning. I thought my 21 day period ended today but they are now saying it is up to 28 days. I just want to start paying money and getting myself sorted. I think nearly 12 weeks already and nothing is officially set up seems long, but this might be normal for all I know.

Stepchange just say they have a back log of cases which I fully understand. Just wish I knew the process a bit better. Would be great to hear from others who have a das.
    Thanks

Have you read the national debtline guidance on DAS? If not I think its quite useful in explaining each part of the process.

You can check the DAS Register to get an idea what stage your case has reached: https://services.aib.gov.uk/dasregister/

If your name isn't on the Register, then StepChange haven't sent the proposal to your creditors yet.

If your name IS on the Register, then click on the word 'Select' at the extreme left of the entry on the Register. That will open up the full record, which will tell you when the proposal was sent to creditors - which is the point that the '21 days' will start.
