Sent a proof of debt letter, not heard anything back..?

I got a letter saying I owed 02 £400+, phoned 02 and spoke with their fraud department, they established that someone had taken a phone out in my name, and it was traced to be last used in Cyprus.
While this was going on, Buchanan Clark & Wells bought the debt from 02, and tried to get me to pay it, I sent all the letters I got from 02 back to BC&W and heard nothing from them regarding the debt.
About 3 weeks later, I get another debt management company Lowell Portfolio I claiming that I owed the debt, which I had already proved I did not owe as I didn't take the phone out.
I've sent Lowell Portfolio a proof of debt letter on the 19th March (recorded) and have not heard anything back from them.
What happens now?

If lowell do not reply then you don't need to do anything.
You may get a letter from them to say it has been passed back to the original creditor.
If you haven't already I would check to see whether this debt is listed on your credit reports. If it is then you will need to complain to whoever is reporting it to your credit file to get it removed.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
It might get sold onto a third company, who will write again. When you send them the copies of the confirmation that no money is owed, add in that if they attempt to sell it on knowing that there is no debt due, you will report them to their regulators and provide the purchasing company with the evidence that they knew it was fraud to sell on the file.
That might stop them selling it on, but hang on to the documents, as this might take a while to properly die off. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Its called "flogging a dead horse" these accounts get passed around like car keys at a swingers party, each DCA wanting a piece of you, you may find others come out of the woodwork, just keep sending them the same letters until they get the message.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Do you mean how would you check if its on your files?
Obtain copies of your files from the 3 credit reference agencies. These are experian, equifax and callcredit.
Callcredit you can view for free online via the noddle website or buy for £2 from callcredit.
Equifax normally £2 online or sign up for a free month trial and cancel within the month (there is a deal running currently to get the 2 report for free although I am not sure the code is still working)
Experian either the £2 statutory report or sign up for a free month trial and cancel with the month.
You might want to start with noddle. Once you have the reports look on the account information section and see if this debt is listed (it will likely show as a defaulted account and the account type will be something along the lines of telecommunications contract).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
