A win of some magnitude, not from comping but just had to share!

So I have already posted on the MSE PPI board, but as most of my time is spent in the comping section with you wonderful people, I just wanted to pop a quick post here...hope you don't mind!
Basically I'd been nagging my OH to put in a PPI claim for about 5 years and it's all thanks to ML :money:
The short story is, my OH FINALLY changed his mind :T, and I didn't let him think about it but phoned the PPI claims tel for his bank (found on MSE!) and made him speak to someone immediately. The loan was from circa 1996, we had paid it off circa 2007 and destroyed all the paperwork (as you do, in relief!!) so no evidence/paper trail, just their word against ours
I helped him complete the forms and sent them off. The bank still had PPI a/c numbers thankfully, despite the time that had passed, so at least they still held some evidence.
Anyway, fully prepared to have to take it to the Ombudsman, we got a letter through a few days ago - inside was a cheque for...
over £21,000 !!!! :j :j :j :j
OMG! I had no idea what an ITV win would feel like, but sort of know now, as this is a life-changing sum for us!!
So the moral is, don't hesitate putting in a PPI claim as you never know what you might get! If my OH hadn't changed his mind (on a whim? My nagging??
) ..well, it doesn't bear thinking about :rotfl:

Well done!
It does pay off following Martin's advice. The sum is amazing!
Glad you persuaded your OH to claim.
This is definitely one for Martin's newsletter.0 -
That's fantastic
:AThanks to all those who post comps:A0 -
Amazing payback well done. As part of a joint loan I got back £4k once and a close friend got back over £6k. Its worth just asking even if they turn around and say no its still worth trying:money::rotfl::T0

Well done biker, that really is a win even a moral victory!!!
Have mega fun spending and sunning it up:beer:Still comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0 -
Congratulations, what a lovely surprise. That has really spurred me on to do the same.
Just out of interest, were you aware you had taken out PPI at the time or had it just been added onto the loan without your knowledge? We have always said no to any add-ons, but I was wondering if they might have sneaked it on anyway.0 -
Blimey, well done you ! Congratulations on your windfall.
and as a footnote, good on your bank for making good.0 -

Squina - when my OH arranged the loan PPI wasn't mentioned in the provisional discussion, but it appeared on the paperwork he was sent. He did query it with his accounts manager before signing the forms, and she explained a little about it, but didn't give him the full facts and sort of glossed over the repayments by saying it would only be a little extra per month  That's pretty much what we reported on the bank's PPI claim form anyway. The later PPI was simply added onto each restructured loan and the bank never dicussed PPI further with my OH so that could be classed as mis-selling I suppose. I think at that time, banks kept the subject quite vague, for obvious reasons! The PPI part of any loan agreement is a separate number so if in doubt you could always check if there is a PPI ref in addition to the normal account ref on any credit agreement you have (should be in your paperwork and on the bank's systems!)
