I have a friend and know others in exactly the same postion rachel thank goodness ATOS has now been retired from work related tests.

mental illness is still thought of as a poor mans disablity if you can't see it it doesn't exsist my friend doesn't suffer as badly as your friend but seeing him most weeks i can tell he's not fit for work his mood swings are quite extreme and if he ever did return i'd be worried for him and possible others. i understand the government (us) is spending too much and needs to cut back but how much is someones life really worth. I see reports in the press about people committing suicide after these tests and i feel for their families.

I hope your friend is feeling happier now the tribunal is over it sounds like you were a real help during this process :)

I did a little happy dance when I saw Atos were ditched. Awful, awful mess they made of so many people's lives. I wouldn't doubt that they might get sued by the bereaved families of those whose illnesses were worsened or who took their lives - especially since Atos had to pay a settlement to the government rather than the other way around for early termination of contract - it suggests culpability.

Yup, there is a lot of blindness towards mental illness. The truth is that the likes of Atos' way of dealing with people who suffer actually ends up causing the state a much larger bill. Either directly through expensive tribunals, or indirectly through the NHS. My friend was completely unable to do the treatment that his counsellor was recommending - she wanted him to try to push himself to do some things outside of his comfort zone - to leave the house and do something that he used to enjoy, like go swimming, or go buy himself something nice... meanwhile because of the JSA/ESA/Atos scenario, and his paranoia, he's terrified of being spotted "out and about", in case they tell him its proof of him making his illness up. "You went to the swimming pool... clearly you don't suffer from any social anxiety" - that kind of thing, so it pushed him to be even more reclusive & paranoid... and not progress with his treatment the way he would have liked to.
I know there are people who cheat the system, but when you compare the size of this countries benefits bill to other areas of spending, like defence/internet spying programmes/government waste/the amount of tax revenue not being paid by large corporations... its really not a big area of spending.
Fingers crossed that whoever comes after Atos is more human-friendly.

There's a Toluna where you can see the requirements to continue in the survey at the bottom of the survey. :rotfl:It says things like "hidden: requirement ____________". Some of it doesn't make sense but some is really obvious.

MAC, sorry to hear about your Mum. I've now got quite a list of illnesses... Thyrotoxicosis, hasimotos thyroiditis, infertility, PCOS, fibromyalgia, some knee thing I can't remember the name of and a problem with my submandibular lymph glands in my neck... I think there is more but I'm getting forgetful now :D

Rachel - Sorry to hear about your friend having so much trouble but nice you were there to support him! Sometimes that can be the biggest difference, just knowing someone wants to help. I really agree about the stress, I've got quite a few symptoms, fatigue, sleep disturbances, achiness, problems with my bones, migraines and a fair few other things but mainly they happy a few here and there rather than all at once or I wouldn't even get online. Today started off a bit blah so that is why I've not been here all day... Still, some tablets helped and feeling better now :D

Well done everyone cashing out today! I'm cashing out almost $20, since Friday, so that is my aim complete and another week starts now :) Thanks for the tips about surveys, going to look now.

Unfortunately I've still got a problem with tasks appearing on Clixsense so I will have to spend the afternoon mainly on Neobux, I will post any jobs that I see though as they should appear on Clixsense for the most part as well x
