How do I know if I won?

Hello All,

Just a quick one - I have been chomping for about 3 weeks now and I have been checking my emails for congratulations emails and I haven't been successful yet. The only thing is I forgot to check my junk folder (schoolgirl error I know)

I seem to have various email with the subject 'we are sorry, we couldn't deliver your xxxxx act now!' And when I click the link it takes me to a survey site.

How will I know if I have genuinely won a comp or if the email I receive is spam?

Generally speaking, be suspicious of any emails purporting to be wins, if they say..

"You have possibly won X, Y, Z"
"To claim your prize, send £X for delivery"
"Click this link to claim your prize"

Winning emails will normally be sent by the company whose comp you entered, or their PR company - if you're suspicious, Google the email sender. Make sure that the actual email address matches the sender, e.g. if it says it's from the Apple Marketing Team and the email address is spamunited@gaga.za, then it's not from who it purports to be from.

Genuine prize emails will almost certainly address you by your first name, mention the competition you entered, and the prize you have won, but they may still end up in your spam mail

If you're not sure, search the title of the email on here, and if you get no results, just post it in Compers' Chat, and we'll take a guess at whether it's spam or not

Just had a look at some wems ive had they all look like this -

''Congratulations'', ''youre a winner'', ''xxxxxx competition'', ''xxxxx has sent you a DM on twitter'', ''you won'', ''you have a message on fb''.

All compers get the emails you talk of and as you comp more you will get them daily (anything with possible winner, sign up here, complete this, we need your details for delivery) are 99.9% fake.
Also DO NOT open ANY email purtaining to come from a MOBILE PHONE, suddenly there is a rash of emails coming supposedly from - orange, voda, ee, 02, containing a ZIP file DO NOT DOWNLOAD!

Its obvious some unscrupulous company has sold all our details in a comp that alot of mse'ers have entered (see seperate thread)

Also ALL WININNG EMAILS will come from a RECOGNISED COMPANY NAME contained in the email.
If you are unsure of anything (although i wouldnt be too concerned yet as 3 weeks is highly unlikely to have notifications - most comps say 'winners contacted within 28 days etc.._But always ask or google first if unsure,
