This is a copy of an email I will be sending to my creditors

can someone tell me if this is ok

With regard to the above loan I would like to inform you that I am experiencing financial difficulties and started a DMP with stepchange reference number xxxxxxx.

They have my full authorisation to deal with the account and a letter has been sent out to that effect from them on the 28th march 2014.

My first payment to them will commence on the 1st May 2014.

Also I request that you remove the following numbers from your database as stapchange now deal with the account.

    xxxxxxxxxxxx
    xxxxxxxxxxxx
    xxxxxxxxxxxx
    xxxxxxxxxxxx

    regards

    Hi SexyS

I think the email looks good, couple of things, am assuming your first payment to SC goes out on 1st May, the actual payments made by SC to the account arrive at creditors on 25th of month, so you may need to make an additional token payment & its probably worth mentioning this in email/letter.

I suspect some of the creditors may well keep your contact numbers on file history so there is always the risk of a call. I understand the problem, and it is a huge secret to keep, but I think having MSE to share with helps. :D

If you did get any calls, having a ready made excuse for your folks might help, e.g. the bank messed up with my direct debits, I think they are chasing it up, or they have been trying to persuede me to take out a credit card or something ?

Don't forget the DMP support thread has lots of advice and a friendly shoulder if you need one

Hi, I personally wouldn't include the phone numbers in the email, just please remove all phone numbers. Because if they didn't have them, they now will.
Also include all future correspondence should be in writing. And maybe request stopping interest and charges. There is a very good template letter on the dmp mutual support thread that has been reposted in the last week or so, or can be found on page 115 of that thread.
    Good luck.

You only need to send £1 as a token, just as long as they see a payment around the time it is due they don't seem to bother you.

I'm about 6 weeks ahead of you, most have agreed to the plan, some already defaulted and I've had 2 phone calls from the same company who were as nice a pie.

Recent new guidelines have advised creditors and DCA`s to deal with people in financial difficulties with more leniency than was maybe shown before, and they also should give you 28 days leeway to arrange repayment plans etc, so don't be surprised if the calls and letters do start, but most are system generated and will not have taken your DMP into account, if you must answer them, never do so on the phone, as you already know, write or email advising them of your DMP.
    Good luck with it !!!
