Friday 28th March - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending:money:

Payday today (obviously not a DFW thing to do though).
Working from home for half a day saving £9.60 train fare.
Going to get a photocard so I can get an annual train season ticket through our company season ticket loan scheme.

Big step for me today...i have been budgeting and paying bits from off my 0% debt merrily for a while now, but I have never actually sat and written down an entire list of outgoings...All my DD's just do their own thing every month.
Today is payday, I have a fabulous spreadsheet that another lovely forum member designed on another other thread and I am going to sit down and list everything. I am going to know exactly where every penny is going.
I tried the free trial of ynab yesterday, but I can't seem to get the hang of it, so the basic use that iwould have of it would be the same as I would get from this spreadsheet, so I think I will stick to the spreadsheet and save the purchase price of ynab. That said, I can see why lots of people like ynab, it's a clever programme.

Also off to home bargains to get a couple of boxes of broken biscuits to keep our sweet tooths happy this month. :)
PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.
Now to start saving...it's a whole new world!!

Morning Ziggy, thanks for starting us off - welcome to The Boss. I have lost a couple of long posts (pc playing up) recently then not had time to repeat it, so apologies for the silence! I hope all of the gang are well.

Very excited to have fixed our wm ourself with the help of the espares.co.uk video and a friend who provided much needed extra hands. Total cost £25.
Three lots of washing on the line yesterday after a week of it stacking up.

Inspired by foxgloves to establish the times of my E7 cheap overnight elec. It runs until 8am so was worth getting up early today to get another wash through :) Have also been hugely impressed by the MSE Energy Club comparison and switching service...made changing my provider yesterday very easy. Moved to sainsbobs - cheapest for my consumption pattern, excluding one company which had bad reviews. Nectar points will be handy too!

    Today:
    • Arrange time to see mum - her stepmother has died, although they weren't close I think this will be a busy time and hope we can help with some practical things
    • Work out new budget now council tax split over 12 months and estimated costs for fuel slightly lower
    • To work - BLD from stores, anticipating NSD today
    • DD here tonight, hope to engage her in some board games (milking the mothers day weekend influence on decisions)
    • Need to make bread tonight, will work dinner plan around that so use the oven
    • More shredding from the giant pile in the loft
    • Ironing in front of last few episodes of line of duty on iplayer tonight
    • We have guests staying and I have some new bookings to look after for the bnb.
    • Adpoints, swagbucks, surveys
    • Freepostcodelottery
    • look into balance transfers
    Thats all folks :)

Morning Ziggy, thanks for starting us off - welcome to The Boss.

I've posted on these threads hundreds of times before in the past few years ;)
  • Morning Gang!!

Thanks for the starter Ziggy... Ally, if you read this today, hope tou and OH are feeling much better soon x

Not a great deal from me today, here goes:

:) Payday banking!! Money moved into various pots and final budgeting for the holiday done!

:) Heating off at home - although the weather's not great, will stick a hoodie on!!

:) Aquired some ready meals from work that the date is up on - so they dish them out to us for nothing!! Ha!

:) Exercise - free use of gym at work

    :) B/L/D from stores

:) Start packing for holiday as work is pretty full on at the moment and don't think I've got a free day between now and then!!

:) Fill in application that's arrived for new credit card - not very DFW - but the intention is to only use it for fuel to begin with and clear the balance in full each month to boost our credit rating!!

:) Make a banana cake for the boys in work - it's my anniversary of service so normally a donut day, but thought if make their favourite instead of buying!!

:) FaceTime OH later as we haven't seen each other this week with our work schedules being the complete opposite! Rubbish!

Right, think that's it for now... Seem to be developing a stinking cold, so off to brew up some honey and lemon!!
Hope everyone has a great day!

    Lots of love,

    Shoot x

    Eighth Anniversary Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi all!

Had to spend some money this morning - I needed a dress for a wedding I'm going to. It's a Hindu wedding and the bride has requested we all wear bright colours and bling! I'm quite a boring dresser and I really don't have anything suitable in my wardrobe. The wedding isn't until May and I was only browsing idly, but I just found a perfect dress, the last one available, in my size and over 50% off with free delivery. Bought it out of my budgeted spending money and now feel very accomplished!

Off to do the parental rounds for the weekend so nothing much to do except deliver presents and eat free food. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

    Thanks for starting us off!
    • Daily imutual and Inboxpounds clicks
    • Hit enough Searchlotto searches for my free ticket
    • Had to go to Tesco and grab some bits and bobs for work...checked my tyres and found a slow puncture!
    • Watched Samba Mobile ads
    • Put in fuel/expense receipts for work
    • Off to Swindon tonight to pick up £20 dog guard from eBay...normally £100 new!
    • Checked banking and cards..no nasty surprises!
    • Planned trip to London for next month for me and my wife...Megabus up, Hotels.com credit for the room and Uber taxi referral codes for the transport!
    • Managed to finally get Freeview in our flat as we have no arial and we're in a listed building! Running TVCatchup off my phone down a £3.95 A/V cable with crystal clear imaging...beats paying hundreds for Virgin media!

Checked my CC account on-line & found a happy surprise. I owed less than Step Change statements were showing. So just over £800 knocked off the debt in an instance. yahoo.gif

  • Popping in a bit late today. Rushed off my feet this week with 2 people off on holiday in my office (there is only the 3 of us in there!!) Plus, maths exam and Biology TMA due in...crazy times!

    Anyhoo

    Work 6:30-3:30 done
    Quick tidy up done
    Check banking done
    Check CC's done
Do some work on Biology TMA done
Organise lunch to take to work tomorrow
Wrap Mother's Day pressies (might leave this one for tomorrow)
    Early night
  • Evening all, quiet on here today.

My list is becoming a bit predictable, but it is easier to achieve each day, and slowly, I add more things to it:

    All meals from stores
    No spend day
    Checked postcode lottery
Checked bank and checked off any DD's which have gone out
Made a weekly budget for next week, I will draw the money out tomorrow and then I won't need to use my card/go to the cash machine again
Created meal plan for next two weeks plus shopping lists (we're away for a few days in April, so I'm planning further ahead than usual)
Made a quick list of other tasks I need to do before we go away
Ironing pile done and a quick tidy up/hoover

Had a mixed feeling day today, does anyone else get this - one minute I'm feeling great about tackling the debt and the next minute it all feels too much/slow progress?

Hope everyone has a good weekend.
