Is it right that i pay for my own CRB check?

Don't worry about going on the course and been 'ignorant'.Thats why you are going on it to learn how to move and handle the residents properly. I work in a nursing home and the employer pays for the CRB but not sure how it works with agencies

    Good luck

Regarding paying for the CRB check, this is common for agencies. It's worth paying if you are sure that you will get work with them.

It's not just care/nursing agencies which look for candidates to pay for their CRB checks but other agencies which deal with people who are regularly subject to CRB checks.

They are also likely to want you to pay for fresh checks after 3 years.

    Hi,

Iam in the same line of work and know a fair bit about moving and handling but don't really understand what it is you need to know :o
if you want to either pm me or post on here I am sure I can help.
I have enquired about agency work before and some have said they will pay and they will reclaim from my first wage with them and others have said they require a cheque on signup at the agency either way yes around these parts you have to pay and the stupid thing is I have an enhanced CRB check which they won't accept as it is done by my present employer and needs their name on as the requestor (if that is a word:D )

HTH you can either post here what you need or send me a PM and I will help

It used to be that they stopped manual lifting and larger residents were to be hoisted onto chairs etc etc

They teach you how to safely move residents to ensure you don't get injured and nor does the resident. You may be taught how to use the tools, such as a banana board.

It's all to do with portability - in certain circumstances the organisation requesting the CRB check may be sent additional information which is not (and must not be) disclosed to the applicant. So you may have a 'clean' CRB check in your possession, but the agency or employer who requested it could have been sent additional information. Very rare, so don't lose sleep over it, but that's one reason why.

Plus the organisation requesting it checks your identity and so on and so forth.

I know it's a pain, but there are sound reasons for this, and if you want a cure for insomnia you could search for portability on the CRB site ...
