I really appreciate the warm welcome and all the help I've had while trying to learn about Elite ways to shop and I've already benefited from lots of shampoo, burgers and pork chops!
However, I've been struggling to keep up with this thread since joining a few weeks ago. I used to think I was reasonably intelligent but feel rather stupid, wasteful and incompetent now.:(:(
I also started to feel guilty about manipulating my shopping so that I benefit from glitches etc. and I'm very worried about getting trouted when I try to use APGs or ask for DTD.
My (adult) children think I've finally lost the plot and laugh at my attempts to explain how the glitching works - although I've noticed they are happy to eat and drink the proceeds!
DH is usually the kindest, most supportive hubby going but even he's losing patience with me as I try to get my head round glitches, comparisons, MSM, MOCs, multiple bank accounts etc etc etc. He told me yesterday (in a kind way) that I'd be far better off concentrating on finding a couple of extra paid hours work per week than spending endless hours both on here and in the supermarket, driving myself mad trying to save a few pounds.
I decided to take his advice and give up trying to shop the Elite way so, as I happened to be driving past Morries yesterday, I did some shopping there. It's rare for me to shop in Morries as my nearest one is 15 miles away but one thing I have learned from the Elite is that on comparison shops Morries is usually the cheapest overall so I thought I'd go and have a look round to see if it would be worth me driving the extra 12 miles (compared to 3 miles to my nearest Tosca) on a regular basis.
When I checked my Morries receipt I found that 2 different offers had not kicked in (orange juice £2.28 each or 2 for £3.50 & fresh herbs 79p each or 2 for £1). I went to CS and they politely refunded me the difference. As far as I know Morries do not offer any sort of recompense for pricing errors (other than to refund the excess paid if you are eagle eyed enough to spot their errors) but this got me thinking about how often supermarkets overcharge and get away with it.
I feel very torn now - on the one hand I don't want to drive myself (and dh) crazy spending endless hours trying to save a few pounds but on the other hand I am so angry that supermarkets seem to be continually overcharging me unless I am hyper-vigilant.
I suppose my question is - can shopping the Elite way really make a massive difference to our spending and, if it can, is it just me that finds this so difficult and time consuming to get my head round?:o
My DH is like this, he seems to see it as tantamount to cheating the shop or stealing because I'd be making money out of them. I don't really agree (and, like your family, he's happy to make the most of any bargains I get). I do, though, think there's something to be said for considering the overall worthwhile-ness of it. e.g. spending £2 on fillers to get £1.50 back on an APG just makes no sense. It's all very well if you're going to buy certain items for your weekly shop that would also work as fillers, but what's the point in spending £2 on sweets otherwise? And people saying 'well it was using up an APG', but you only got the APG by 'overpaying' in the first place, so spending the APG on crap or letting it go to waste means you've just overpaid for nothing.
I also can't see the advantage of driving 12 extra miles to M, given the price of petrol it would be hard to save money that way.
Overall, I think you have to pick your moments. Clearly there are some bargains to be had, and plenty of money to be saved, but it can take up a lot of your personal time and energy, and you have to consider that as well. I only do the bits I do because T is very close to work, and I'm too far from home to drive back for lunch. I'd rather be in T getting 1p bargains and finding RTC items when I can, than sitting at my desk for the extra hour. Otherwise I just wouldn't bother, as it wouldn't be worth spending my free 'home' time doing it.0 -

Hi Nenen
Just a skim read from me but maybe its worth easing yourself in slowly?
I joined the elite last year and it took me a good couple of months before I attempted a glitchy As shop (I remember everyone telling me the muller glitch back then was a good one to start off with).
I'd say its taken me almost an year to be as confident as I am now with my glitchy shopping.
Dont expect results overnight, oh and you'll get used to everyone thinking your doolally (I got told off by DH recently)
I've kept a finance diary of everything we've spent since January last year, I'll just grab my figures and see how much my shopping bill has changed in the last yearHistoric Debt August 2009 = £63,600 10th March 2017 = £0 100% paid all gone!
Mortgage started June 2015 = £170,000 January 2022 = £134,000
Saving for Xmas 2022= . . Amazon £55
If you focus on what you have left behind, you won't see what lies ahead - Gusteau0 -

Looking more closely using MSM it would appear,
A v S or W on 2L Reg/Diet/Max works out at paid 9p pb.
addiditionally just A v S on Cherry
if working AS MSL IS SHOWING AS £1 on PEPSI, but DORITOS are showing as £2.28.
and Doritos A v T on Chilli Heatwave / Lightly Salted / Cool / Cheese + Hot and Mild Salsa Dip working out at paid 38p per item
Trip to As required I think.
cadbury nutty caramel 200g 2 for $3 iNo multi shows compare 4,50 v 3.00
the choc will work in store ...returns £1.50
Fruit n nut, plain, golden crunch all show as £2 these are all 2 for £3Ignore reality. There's nothing you can do about it.
I have done reading too!

And 5% MSL cashback.
With the cashback 36 is margnally better value than the 20 pack versus T (assuming you account for the 10% APG and happen to be buying T comparable things anyway)0
