Shop Direct sold debt to Lowell

Hi everyone

Today, I have received a letter from Lowell debt collectors, saying that Shop Direct have sold my debt on to them, and I must continue to pay via my DMP as was agreed with Shop Direct.

I am now very worried. I've been in my DMP for a year now and cannot understand why this has happened, I've never missed a payment nor a repayment-plan payment. I am also worried that I will receive extra correspondence from Lowell to my home, calls etc. Finally, I am worried that this means they will put a default on my credit file as up to now, they had just put arrangement to pay markers (although I haven't received a default notice).

Why would this have happened? and what happens next?

Thanks

  • I don't think the debt being sold on is a bad thing, and they are obviously happy for the payments to continue.

My OHs debts have all been sold on to other companies since he has been in his DMP and we've had no extra calls/correspondence at all.

Also, if the debts get sold on, the debt collection companies will tend to freeze interest. They buy the debts for pennies in the £ so it puts you in a good position for negotiating low full and final settlements if you get to that stage.

I was quite glad when my debts got sold on, as many of my creditors continued to lump on interest.

Just ignore their calls and letters and keep paying as you are. Lowell were part of my dmp for a long time and I ignored them and they left me alone provided I continued to pay via my dmp.
