How early in the course did you withdraw? Normally the OU will at least partly cancel your fees if you withdraw from a course early. Have you spoken to anyone at your regional centre yet, or just the people on the main student support phone number?

The only people that can get you out of paying the loan are the OU themselves. You should see OUSBA as just a bank. The OU can give you your money back (they can return it to OUSBA), but as long as OUSBA are out of pocket they will want paying. Maybe you can come to some sort of extended repayment plan with them?

I have always found the OU to be reasonable in this sort of situation. It's not fair on them to suggest they only want to keep your money. They are a university, they're not in it for profit. It sounds to me like you just haven't been speaking to the right people yet. Try calling your regional centre directly.

    Hello there,

Do you know how much it is that the Open University are chasing you for? I'm sorry that they have been unforthcoming, that must be pretty frustrating for you.

There is likely to be a few options for you, but I need to ask a few extra questions if that would be OK? Do you have any other debts? Do you have assets? Are you likely to become better again?

Here's our website, you'll find lots of helpful information - including a four step guide to dealing with debts. if you can give us a little more information we can provide you with some practical options for you.

    Very best wishes,

If you only studied 3 months of a £2000 course and have already repaid £1500, then if anything I think the OU should owe you some money back!

The first point of contact with the OU is normally the student support and registration service, they are the people you get through to when you call the main 0845 number given all over the OU website. Sometimes those people aren't the most helpful.

You need to try speaking to someone at your local OU centre. Contact info for regional centres can be found here: http://www2.open.ac.uk/students/help/ou-offices
