Post Shingle Pain

Options
my husbands friend is being driven mad with the pain still going strong whilst the spots/rash has dissappeared. He was lucky to have caught the rash in time and had activar tablets in the first 72 hours, the pain is the problem now, a month later, even effecting his legs etc is this normal? Looking at various web sites most people say the pain can be prolonged but hwo long is that? Any home treatments used with success? im not asking for doctors advise just what has worked for others.
my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!

he should start with regular pain killers available over the counter: paracetamol, codeine and ibuprofen (check with pharmacist regarding interactions/cautions).

however, post-herpatic neuralgia is a not uncommon condition after an attack of shingles. if the pain persists then he should see his GP. there are a variety of prescription medications which can help with the pain.
