Help! Grommets in adulthood!!!

Just been told recently that I need an op to have grommets fitted as I have fluid behind the ears and it is causing very slight deafness and 'ear popping'. I am clueless as to what this entails and all I can find on t'internet is to do with children/glue ear and grommets. Has anyone else had this as an adult and what did it entail please?? Can you see/feel the things when they are in place for instance. Any general, (non-medical), info would be much appreciated......

my FIL had this and didn't want the operation- I recommended acupuncture for it and it did clear with a couple of weeks- how long have you had the problem as it may take a bit longer, the longer you have been affected.

Hi onamission and thanks for the reply.

I like the sound of acupuncture better than grommets!!! I will certainly have to look into that as, like your FIL, I don't fancy this op at all. I guess I first started with the prob about 6-8 weeks ago but it's got worse this last couple of weeks. I was so taken by surprise when the consultant suggested this course of action that I didn't ask half of the questions I should have, like for eg any other courses of action!!

Don't worry Miro - that happens us all. As you have only had it a few weeks it should clear up quickly. Have a look for a British Acupuncture Council Member at www.acupuncture.org.uk.

    any probs PM me.

Not medical advice - just reporting what DD2(10)'s ENT consultant told me yesterday about DD's ears. She's had years of fluid behind the eardrums, followed by grommets - which eventually fall out. The fluid builds up again and the whole sorry saga starts again. She can't have any more grommets as her eardrums are too thin and scarred now by the grommet operations. She's been told to 'pop' her ears by holding her nose and blowing down it until her ears pop as often as she can remember. It's meant to help her to clear any fluid build up.

IMHO think long and hard before you go down the grommets route. Just my humble opinion and not advising you what to do :o:)

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.
