I know its strange! We bought some new cars! I can't bring myself to spend the 'extra' we used in overpayments!
would have liked a big certificate from the bank and Land registry to say the house is all ours but no chance of that!! Bit of an anti-climax now! And I have worked 2 extra shifts this weekend which I no longer need to do as I am so used to wanting the extra money to throw at the mortgage!!

I would have liked a fanfare at the bank !! but at least the bank cashier was very pleased for us!

Were ok for cars, Ive just booked a minicruise !! my mortgage money will be the spending money for this.

  • Hello,

I've viewed this topic / thread for years and despite never posting until now I've found many of the posts inspirational and informative.

I expected to pay my mortgage off fully next month but I just called the lender for a balance expecting there to be a small amount owing and the account is actually £74 in credit so I'm officially mortgage free.

    Yipppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :T

Early 90s when i overpaid by accident and saw what an impact it had. Paid off mortgage once but took another out to buy our current property.

Mortgage Debt at its highest :250,250

    Mortgage Free Date 02/07/2013

One Pearl of Wisdom: Overpay as much as you can even if its small amounts it has an impact ,whatever you pay off while rates are low is money you wont pay interest on when rates go up.
  • Hello

I think I've posted on here before but can't just find it.

We've been mortgage free since Nov 2008 aged 37 and 42.

We overpaid like mad, its the best thing we ever did and has made such a difference to our lives, we have a couple of holidays a year and a new car every so often.
