Hi and thanks for all of the replies. I've been thinking about it all day at work. I would plan to keep the car until it dies, my dad said that £20,000 for an astra is a hell of a lot, but it just seemed like all of the savings I would be getting on the car, coupled with it being brand new and having the peace of mind of the unlimited warrantee Vauxhall offer, all seemed like a really good idea. But having thought on it all day coupled with all of the responses, I should look at something second hand. Thank you all

take the car out for a testdrive and testdrive a 3 year old 'quality' car...I agree with your dad £20k for an Astra is bonkers0

How nice to hear back from you, what you think, and what you've decided to do. It's a pity more Original Posters don't do that. Thanks and good luck with the car you do decide to purchase.

OP, be very wary of these "lifetime" warranties, they have so many exclusions it's untrue.0 -

That is so true, why don't you look at a Motability car? Three years old, always had to be serviced at the main dealer and you can get amazing bargains, three year warranty is no problem and you can easily check on the web pages for dealers who specialise in them. Buying new is crazy, just depreciates by a huge amount when taken out if the showroom thanks to the tax. The Astra is overpriced.0 -
£20k for an Astra? Is it yellow and does it come with a technology pack?
Seriously, stupid amount of money for a crap car. You could have a fleet of decent cars for half the price. Do a quick search for £15k cars on autotrader, you can get some nearly new excellent make cars worth driving.
Personally I think spending £20k on a car is bonkers when there are plenty of good ones out there for a fraction of the cost.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

The Astra is not a bad car though, but I agree it is not worth anything like that amount of money, I wouldn't dream of spending on that, or most cars, used or demos perhaps, but not new, not any more anyway, I done that enough times and it has taken a while to get through to me0
