Problem with Local Authority Search Results

Hello everyone
I've googled my issue but nothing seems to come up and so I'm wondering how common my issue is and whether anyone else has experienced this and can offer any advice or guidance.
I'm ready to exchange contracts on a property but was just awaiting the local authority search results which have taken 3-4 weeks due to the council issues.
They have now come back with the following comment:
This appears to relate to a tramline that was proposed in 2004 with a planned completion date of the end of 2014. Nothing physical has been undertaken on this project and it has since disappeared from the website of the local transport authority and from talking to the locals it seems extremely unlikely. Since this project was considered 10 years ago, HS2 has been announced and so there are different options on the table it seems. (If you havent figured out yet, the property is in Birmingham
)
My solicitor has told me he has to pass this back to the bank to see if they will continue to lend.
Could anyone offer any guidance on what their next steps would be? I would like to pre-empt where possible and bat it straight back as I dont want to mess the vendors around and delay the sale any longer. I'm already a little embarrassed that we've had to sit on our hands for 4 weeks due to a council IT issue.
Thanks in advance for any info.

The property of your search is within 200m of a corridor of a possible rapid transit scheme, the centre line of which has not yet been fixed and not programmed.

Well it is an issue that is going to come up on a search that any buyer is going to do, so the vendor will need it sorting, the vendors probably were given notice of this when it was first proposed.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
