Newly BR- and British Gas pull the plug

Hi all,

Newly BR- and now got a letter in the post that British Gas have cancelled my DD payment, as I have instructed- but I didn't!

I gave up on the phone after hanging after 20 mins- but thinking this is due to BR?

Is there such a thing as a BR-friendly supplier?

And can this happen with any DD?

Sure they aren't creating you a new account? that seems to be what they do when you go bankrupt.

was the account just in your name?

If British Gas were one of your creditors what should happen is; that they will close your fuel account and then open a new one. Any credit in your previous account will be credited to the new account as will any payments made after the BR date. You will then be offered a new DD unless you had serious arrears in which case they may ask if you will have a pre-payment meter to help you budget.
Any outstanding fuel debt will fall in to the BR.

Yes the bill is just in my name, and I'm only in debit by £40 or so.
Nice if they could tell me what's going on, rather than falsely claiming I cancelled the DD myself!
