  • fags + takeaways!!

Both bad (the fags more so!!!)

funnily enough, now that I am DF and don't *need* to cut costs anymore, I am about to try and give up smoking.

Thanks for the delayed reaction brain!

    Hi Eyeopener
Firstly BIG congrats on getting yourself debt free. If your journey has been so hard I'm sure the thought of going through it again will act as a 'brake' if you're ever tempted to get carried away.
I really admire the fortitude of the people on here - just not sure I could have deprived myself of EVERYTHING.
Funny you should mention football programmes. OH has a stash of them that I eye up greedily on occasions - but I value my life too much to touch them without his express permission - and I think hell will freeze over before he gives it
Also thanks for staying around to give me and others the benefit of your own experiences. Hopefully I'll be joining you in the debt free roll of honour by the end of this year :j

I found the bigger things easier to give up.

I have no tv (sky or licence)
    I am on PAYG (£15 a month)
Space (had to get a lodger)

But the pub and a cheap takeaway, couldnt do it. I dont drink when I go so its about £2.30 for the coke and £4.50 for kebab etc. But they will be the last to go.

Our iPhones. Can't be done. We gave up Sky, gym, eating out, all the rest of it, but we're too deep in the Apple ecosystem to get out now ;)

Also my education. It's expensive but it matters too much to give it up.

Yep, that's my answer too. The most extravagant thing I've bought myself so far this year is a bar of chocolate :o and that's fine. But I won't give up my daughters' swimming and ballet lessons, or (occasional) new clothes , or trips to the cinema or swimming-pool.

We've cut back a lot on our debt-busting journey so far but nothing has changed for our kids.

I won't give up nice ham either :rotfl: I can't stand that plasticky, slippery stuff with added water, yuck. It's an extravagance but I've tried the cheap stuff and I just can't do it!
  • For me it's ciggies and wine :o
I have an addictive personality and try as i might i can't give either up :o
    We've given up;
    SKY
    HAIRCUTS
    UNNECESSARY CLOTHING SPENDING
    TAKEAWAYS
    NIGHTS OUT
    GYM

What could I not give up? Well along my DF journey I have learned many things. one of the biggest things is family is most important and things become a poor second.

I think I would be sad if I could not have a small hot bath most nights. Yes, I have been there! when the boiler stopped working in winter. A tepid bath using kettle water is not very nice.

The little work horse called a washing machine. There is soon wash mountain when it gets old and stops. Oh the few days wait for a new machine to be delivered. It is the talk of the house.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)
