Hi there, I am very sorry if I am posting this in the wrong forum and to be honest I don't even know if its money related at all but it smells awfully like debt collectors to me.
I have been getting calls from 0115 837 7562 every day last week, I am always cautious of numbers that I don't recognise and I have let it go to voicemail each time but they don't leave a message and searching the tel number online tells me nothing apart from whoever it is, is in Nottingham.
Curiosity got the better of me so I withheld my number and rang the number above, the phone is answered by an automated system greeting of 'welcome to consumer exchange, your call is being directed', I let it ring for a while and chickened out, hung up.
I cant seem to find any information on a company called consumer exchange in Nottingham with this number and as above it smells to me very like debt collectors, has anyone also had calls from this number by any chance?

Sounds like one of the new breed of 'debt management' sharks that are starting to pop up. Essentially, they try to get you in a debt management plan with them for which you pay extortionate fees for doing absolutely nothing you could not have done yourself. If you have need of such services, visit StepChange - it is the only recommended course of action. Never pay a 'debt management company' a fee and never even get into the conversation with them. Treat your calls as unsolicited sales calls and ignore.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

I thought I would help you out by ringing them while I was at work. I asked who they were they said they needed the number that they called to trace as "they work in a number of different departments" but they couldnt disclose who they were due to data protection. So yes sounds like a debt collection company.0 -
Well I have had a few more calls from this number again and it was starting to annoy me so decided to take a deep breath and find out exactly what it was all about and give the number a call back. After an age on hold it turns out to be an accident chaser.
The chap on the phone said they had been calling me regards an accident that I have had in the last two years, I then asked what accident he was referring to and he couldn't tell me.
He did insist when I asked to confirm the company name that the company was definitely called consumer exchange and he gave me an address of Exchange Quay in Salford, a quick search online of the address confirms who they more than likely really are.
Thanks again for your help and sorry this turned out to be not debt related after all.0 -
I have had various debt management companies ringing me over the last few weeks as well, it seems if you apply for a loan, and are turned down, your number gets passed to one or more of these sharks, it must be an arrangement they have with the loans companies, of course they cold call as well, but the funny thing is I now don't have any debt, at all, and you should hear the disappointment in there voices when I tell them this, outstanding !!!! its big business nowadays unfortunately with the current financial situation, and lots of people still don't realise they don't need to pay a debt management company in order to manage there debts.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
