The UK's inflation rate, as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), fell to 1.7% in February from 1.9% in January, official figures show.
It marks the second consecutive month that the measure has been below the Bank of England's 2% target.
Carney misses the inflation target for a second consectutive month.
Now 15% off the target.
Sack him.

Better than Kings 200% plus though.
Never his fault though.0 -
Depends what you are targeting and with what.
I am sure it could be managed up if it meant anything.
Surely this "low inflation" is the fault of the previous incumbent, Carney hasn't been their long enough to have influenced the position."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

There's no conspiracy here. The target is based on monitoring what people really spend their money on whether we approve of that spending or not.grizzly1911 wrote: »I am sure it could be managed up if it meant anything.
Yes please. I'm just negotiating a pay rise.grizzly1911 wrote: »Surely this "low inflation" is the fault of the previous incumbent, Carney hasn't been their long enough to have influenced the position.
I don't care whose fault it is. I've got a mortgage and monthly payments I'd like to see inflated away.
There's also an enormous national debt that I'd like to reduce in value before being inherited by future generations. Won't anyone think of the children?0 -
It still means money in bank getting reduced
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -

Didn't say there was a conspiracy theory simply depends on what you want to target and how you choose to measure success.
As long as you are happy that is all that matters."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

No, for any number that can go both ppositive and negative it makes no sense at all to talk of a percentage change on a percentage change figure.
It was tongue in cheek.
The first rule of frothing is to find two small numbers and calculate the % difference between them. It might make no sense but the maths is correct and it serves some agendas better to talk about inflation being 15% off target rather than 0.3%.0 -

Most people are sensible enough to realise that the typical basket will be different to their own.
I think you're suggesting, however, that the basket is manipulated to contain non-typical items with the intention of delivering a lower inflation figure than the true typical basket. This doesn't seem to be sensible to me but does seem to have a following.0
