Im with the NR, and i have access to online banking for my mortgage!!

Hi. Out of curiosity, do you know where I can get the details required to complete overpayments online from my bank account? I guess I would need the sort code and account for Northern Rock mortgages (and imagine I'd need to quote my Account number as the reference) - is that right? Looked on their web-site and couldn't find the necessary information (surprise!).
I too would like to become a debt free wannabee! :j

It is probably best if you phone them, they gave me a sort code and account number to make the payment to online and I just use my mortgage account no as the reference. also I think it is better that you phone them to tell them where you want the overpayment to go to i.e interest or capital

On another note, I was speaking to NR yesterday regarding early penalty charges and they say that after 2010 I would only have to pay 4% of the final balance as a penalty, so the guys says once I get the balance down to about £100 then I give them a phone and it would only cost me £4 in penalties.

    Roll on July 2013:rotfl:

Why not look at paying some of your mortgage off using money from a credit card with a 0% deal and then instead of paying the extra off your mortgate each month use that money to reduce the debt on the credit card. Once the interest free period expires simply transfer the outstanding balance to another card with a similar deal.

This will serve to make a quick impact on not only reducing your mortgage debt but also the interest payable on it.

I'm afraid that's not entirely correct. Maybe you misunderstood?? Its 4% of the initial loan amount not the final balance. Feel free to check your mortgage contract. (I am in the throws of purchasing hence how comes I notice these things lol)

Thanks for the tip on how to get an NR balance. I signed up for the online review last week thinking it was a balance enquiry service. Now I've just been on an done just that.

As far as online payments are concerned, ring them up and they'll give you a sort code and account number. You just then enter your mortgage account number in the reference field. I have these details but wouldn't like to give you the wrong details by accident........unless they were accidentally my details :rotfl:

I was a bit concerned about my first online payment so rang them to check they had received. All OK, so now I can pay any amount at any time I want.

Can you get a CC which gives 0% on cash advances? If you can tell us about it. I don't think they'll allow you to pay a mortgage using a credit card.

To get my balance, i pretend to be doing an on line mortgage quote, you sign in (takes a few pages of user number, password, special 'name' and account number) then it comes up with a confirmation screen, continue and you get your rate, any early repayment charges etc, and at the bottom, your current balance. I dont go any futher than that, as its only the balance im after!!!
