Reed Agency

Hi

I know this is a stupid question But I was wondering when you sign up with a agency and apply for a permanent job. How do they make their money. Who pays who??

Thanks

Many thanks for your reply. I am only looking at permanent positions..

I applied for a job advertised with Reed and the company phoned me to book a time for tomorrow to do a telephone interview with them. Its been 18 years since I have had a interview and the first one is over the phone lol...

With agencies, you need to always try to negotiate up your cut in temp jobs.

For permanent jobs, it can often depend on the situation. Many agencies take a % of different tiered salary bands. This can depend on the recruitment agents sales that month, so just be careful. I was once given too low a salary by an agency, as they were throwing the company a bone, so to speak. It took a while to get it back up etc.

Also, there are always problems if you temp and want to work permanently for a Company ie. costs are incurred again.

    Hope that helps a little

Just remember that as you don't have a permanent place of work, you can claim mileage expenses so keep a record and submit a P87 at the end of the tax year.

    Sorry, I don't understand this.

The OP was considering a permanent job and there was no mention of location.

If you are writing of temporary work, I think the P87 refers to business mileage or travel to a temporary place of work when there is a permanent base. As a temp, normally where you work is your permanent base for the time you are working for that employer. Do you know of temporary workers who have persuaded HMRC differently?
