I'm using the co-op for my bills and Barclays for day to day living expenses, I want to be able to easily track payments going out for bills so using the co-op makes more sense with internet banking access.
  • Thanks. Hence me wanting to keep my existing account (as I use online facility to check balance regularly and to make transfers etc.) but Co-Op sounds an option.

I asked Barclays about 2 accounts for the very purpose you state. They seem ok with that. Think I will stick with my appointment with them next week and get that sorted (or try Co-Op too).

If you are desperate for online access, which I was, Thinkmoney will charge you a hefty £15 a month, but their online banking is excellent and it's a managed account, which I know isn't everyone's idea of fun, but it was a good tide over until I could get online access through Barclays.
The Co-Op needs to be open prior to bankruptcy.

I too opened an account with Barclays this week after declaring bankruptcy last week and i was informed that they are introducing internet banking for all their customers as of June/july.

The lady who opened my account even downloaded the banking app to my phone so i have instant access to my account and can keep track of real time transactions, so no different from other banks.

Thanks for that Miss Prim. That's excellent news should it happen. We'll all keep our fingers crossed that Barclays will join the 21st century.

I'm very interested to hear this! My Barclays are not playing ball at all and refuse point blank to give me access to internet banking, mobile app banking and even their advanced account machines in the actual branches until I am AD. I will go and ask again...

I was also recently told that the only electronic support on my account would be the weekly text.
I did apply for online banking the day of my AD and it all went through. I never took a letter in to the brand or similar, which I was told was the procedure.
It seems so counter-intuitive to prevent easy online access. Hopefully Barclays will change this very soon.

  • You cannot open a Co-op Cash Minder account as an undischarged bankrupt. The only Bank that will give you an account is Barclays with no online access.

Yes, but the OP is NOT an undischarged BR, they haven't got BR yet so a Co-op account is an option for them.

Interesting news on the interment access at Barclays. I will also ask at my local branch when it will be avaialble to me as I'm still undischarged until September. It will be a great help, I'm sick of going to the cashpoint for mini statements.
