Nearly 6yr old CCJ getting chased by HFO what can I do?

Hello my problem Is that I had an old welcome finance agreement that I unfortunately got in to debt with. A CCJ was registered in July 2008. I have since been trying to get my credit back on track & have registered to Experian. The CCJ is still there & I believe it will be till July this year, then it will be 6 years old.
My problem is this, recently I have had "debt collection" agency HFO chase this debt from me. I have never had word or paid or had anything to do with this account since the CCJ. My girlfriend rang up with the reference number to HFO who said now she has rang it has been acknowledged but I have not spoken to anyone.
Where do I stand & what can I do? Thanks.

Do HFO know there is a CCJ? Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.
HFO are having their license taken off them by the OFT so this must be a last desperate attempt to get money before they are forced out of business.Still rolling rolling rolling......<

Right. A few ground rules here.
1) DCAs are liars. Say it again and again
2) A debt is statute barred if it is more than 6 years old, and no acknowledgement has taken place. That acknowledgement can only be one of the following : a) payment or b) written explicit acknowledgement (It's a fair cop guv...kind of thing). This applies if a CCJ has NOT been obtained first! Not applicable in your case.
3) They can pursue you for the debt outstanding if there is a CCJ in place even after 6 years has elapsed, but I believe they have to go back and get a renewed permission to do so. My guess is that this would be unlikely, but not impossible. Therefore, essentially, the CCJ isnt really enforceable after 6 years. If you are sure that 6 years will elapse in July, I would go radio silent until then and just avoid them. It doesnt mean they cant pursue you, just that it is very hard to enforce CCJs if they cant find you.
...and Rizla beat me to it...definitely avoid them if they are getting their license revoked. Head down, mouth shut and watch for additional court papers but dont hold your breath, they are grasping at straws.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

If you get anything from them, come here first before you act. Do not do anything without advice.
