Pottering away, as I do, I came across these triangular PV panels. Interesting.

    Hi Mart,

I don't believe the salesman got confused, more like they haven't got a clue what they'r on about, much like the many that tried(and failed) to sell a system to my parents.

Hiya T, this reminds me of some posts about a year ago, when someone was quoted for 16 230Wp panels (3,680Wp) and I said that was extremely odd. Then another poster, something like 'expert energy man' or the like, said that 3.68kWp was the max without prior permission.

He/she went on to list the rules, including the one that you can exceed 3.68kWp as long as the inverter is capped at 3.68kW, which I'd mentioned earlier!!!!!!!

It's always annoying when those arguing against you, destroy their own argument, denying you the pleasure. :rotfl:

We have just had a visit from a Staybrite Solar rep and I am more confused since he left!
He didn't stay four hours, but he did treat us as brainless for not doing the scheme while he was here. He wanted to charge us £5,750 for 8 panels and the interest rate is 9.9% with £100 deposit.
I can't get my head around if this is a good deal or not. We currently pay E On £140 per month dual fuel. He didn't mention anything about an EPC Band D certificate. Our house is 91 years old and we don't have double glazing as my husband likes the original wooden frames.
Anybody help explain the deal? Thanks.

I'll explain it for you... TOO EXPENSIVE

8 x panels will be 2kWp system, you should be able to get 16 panels for around the same price(4kWp). So glad you didn't sign up there and then.
You do need an EPC of D or better to attract the top rate FIT, just because you have wooden frames and single glazing doesn't necessarily mean you won't hit that target, that will depend on if you've insulated, light bulbs...all energy saving stuff(the more the better)

Shop around and get some more prices

If you have the cash spare it is better to use it but if you have to borrow there are much lower interest rates available if you sort out the loan yourself,I would always be very suspicious when salesmen start talking about putting down deposits to secure a deal.
  • Like anything get at least three quotes and make a decision then, and bare in mind the cheapest isn't always the best.
