Advice please - lowells debt 2008

Hi All
Not sure whether you can help me.
Just before December 2013, my ex husband asked me if I knew of any debts that we had had with HFC. I said I couldn't recall any and he sent a letter of limitation off.
Anyway, today he informs me that he received a letter on Friday from Lowells asking him to pay a debt of approx £3k.
Turns out this is a joint debt, the last payment was made in May 2010. They appear to have found his new address but even though the debt was joint they haven't contacted me despite me having lived at my address for over 6 years and being on the electoral roll.
We have discussed this and are going to make an offer in full and final settlement (of a less amount as neither of us have the full amount) however, I have read on a website that we don't have to pay them anything as our contract was with HFC and not them.
Can anyone advise please? Is it true we don't have to pay?
Thanks in advance.

no its not true as within the terms and conditions of the loan it would state that they can assign the debt to whom ever they like you can argue it with them but it wont get you far
you can ask for a notice of assignment to prove that it is them you need to pay
make the F&F offer in writing asking them to confirm that the outstanding balance will not be collected upon or sold on write the letter from the both of you and ask for a copy each of the conformation when the settlement has been paidThe only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50
