Tesco Loans asking for payment after 2 years

Hi, I used to have a loan with Tesco, I finished paying 2 years ago, or so I thought.
I had a phone call from them this week, saying that they didn't ever take the final payment and that they now want it.
I remember at the time, I had just started working freelance and so I changed my DD date from the 1st to the 10th of the month to make sure any income had cleared.
They say, because of the this change of date that the payment wasn't ever taken. I didn't realise at the time, but looking through my old bank statements they are right.
In the 2 years since though, I haven't heard from them at all, not a letter, phone call, email, nothing. They have all my details. Although I have since moved house, but I was at my old address for a long time after my loan finished.
Does anyone know where I stand on this? I can't deny the amount is outstanding. But it was them who obviously made a mistake and never collected it and they haven't contacted me for 2 years until this phone call out of the blue???
I hope they haven't put 2 years worth of late payments on my credit file! They person on the phone said they hadn't, which also seems a bit odd, as they would normally report it and pass it on to collections well within 2 years, wouldn't they?
Thanks for any advice.

Pay the money. You owe it and it has caused you no harm.
You caused it by the way as you decided to change the contract yourself.0 -
Pay the money, check your credit file is okay, then move on."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0

You owe the money.....stop trying to con and weasel your way out of it.
Pay it.We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You still owe them some money and should pay it.moggaletti wrote: »Does anyone know where I stand on this?
Two years is not outside any legal time limit.I can't deny the amount is outstanding. But it was them who obviously made a mistake and never collected it and they haven't contacted me for 2 years until this phone call out of the blue???
They say they haven't. Get them to send you a full statement so that you can confirm it.I hope they haven't put 2 years worth of late payments on my credit file! They person on the phone said they hadn't, which also seems a bit odd, as they would normally report it and pass it on to collections well within 2 years, wouldn't they?loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
They have 6 years to chase you for it - as others have suggested pay it.0
