Unarranged overdraft usage fee..

Hi, so I have a current account open with Santander however a few months ago I switched to a different bank. I tried to do the switch myself online but for some reason it wasn't working, so being impatient I created a new bank account online and decided to just cancel my account with Santander. (I'm only 18 and nothing really comes out of my account so it didn't really make much difference to do it this way).
I ended up completely forgetting to cancel my account with Santander and about 2 weeks ago I received a letter from them saying I was in £200 unarranged overdraft and I had 12 days to put money in the account and pay it. It turned out I had forgotten to cancel a £10 a month direct debit to PDSA which I had forgotten about and this had caused the overdraft. Obviously I wasn't very happy but I decided to just transfer the money and pay it.
I am sending off a letter to cancel my account today and I have just checked my Santander online banking to make sure everything is in order before I do so. The account now says my balance is -£100 and £100 came out of my account yesterday as an 'Unarranged overdraft usage fee'.
Why has this happened if I paid off my overdraft? I was not told in the letter I received that I would have to pay them even more once I had paid it off.
Does anyone know what I can do and where I stand with this?
Thanks

Banks usually charge a monthly unauthorised overdraught fee, its possible you have strayed into another month before you settled your debt, may be worth ringing and asking them to reimburse you, most banks will do this once in the financial year, but you have to ask, they wont do it automatically.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
