I work in a classroom. Please don't buy us gifts - a simple handmade thank you note/card from the child is more than enough. The class I work in has three adults which would cost some parents a fortune - especially if they have more than one child. We don't need any more smellies, candles or writing paper .... although bottles of wine are always appreciated!0

i would really like to get them a gift.0 -
In our class this year the class reps are asking parents to donate £5 so they can get the teachers vouchers. I have already got some bargain bits so will probably just use those!0

I second that, as a teacher, although please don't buy me wine as I don't drink (and feel really guilty then). A nice hand made card is really really appreciated, so much more than presents, and easier to keep for years to come (I still have all of mine ever given).
( And podiluska - 6 weeks paid holiday? Whatever  )Do not feed the trolls please.0 -

I always say this on these "gifts for teachers" threads but again for the record....
a cake or biscuits for the staff room is very much appreciated (esp home made) and enjoyed by all. You can give it to one teacher if you wish but we all share them. Don't save them all until the last day of term either -we need time to enjoy them (even though each one will only last one break time!)
If you want to do more you can't beat a bottle of wine. Most teacher's teaching assistants do drink and any that don't could just save it for guests or take to a dinner party.
Thank you for thinking of us.MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0 -
Can I echo what others have said. There is no need to get expensive gifts for teachers. A hand made card is delightful and if you want to do something personal, maybe make a cake with/for your child to take in. This will be shared amongst all the staff and much appreciated. The amount of chocolate some of the staff receive is positively obscene and very very bad for the health. And as apples1 says, don't wait for the end of term. A week or two earlier makes a lovely break time for the staff and is hugely enjoyed. It is the card and gift companies who benefit the most from "Gift from the teacher".Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. For my kids teachers I get an Oxfam Unwrapped gift, usually a teacher type one such as school books or teaching aids. The money for these goes to the countries that need it most (rather than the poor teacher's waistline!) and most teachers are touched by the thought rather than the item. The kids each personalise the card, and choose the cover, so thought has gone into it as well!!0
