How to get an easy job

Have you thought of Matched Betting, which is basically using the bookies signing on bonuses or offers and accepting a similar bet from someone else on Betfair which is basically risk free. It will be similar to your trading experience, you are self employed and it's tax free.

How much is that going to make, though? Is it really an alternative to a job that pays the bills each month?
What happens if you make that your "career", and the offers dry up?0 -
Why not go part time, work hard and GO for promotion, but learn to keep stress at bay, and in your spare time, help out at the CAB or similar ?0

I am already a financier to some extent. Unfortunately I dont quite have enough to live off that.
On depression - I have considered this. I looked at the NHS page. I do suffer from a few of the things listed. I am reluctant to say I am depressed - I still have a laugh from time to time, can accomplish things. People who I have known with depression have become grey , motivationless people where as I am not like that at all.
I am very reluctant to talk to a Doctor about it as once you let these people into your life they wont go away. Also, when I was in the city I was miserable to the point of starting to think about suicide (I didn't seriously consider it, but when it entered into my mind I knew I had to get out - and did. My life improved dramatically and it isn't something I really think about any more. A few guys I worked with recommended seeing therapists / psychologists. They couldn't imagine anyone sane would voluntarily walk away from a £40-50k 60 hour a week job to move up north get a £20k job and work 37 hours....
I have lots of capacity to change my life for the better - so surely this is a better way to approach it rather than a few prozac ?
So you're not willing to help yourself?0 -
These days GP's don't prescribe Prozac plus you can have a course of anti depressants from the GP which help you and then when you are on a more even keel then you come off them and need never visit a GP again. You should not self diagnose from reading a website either - remember you are not a medical specialist. You seem to have a very blinkered view with regards to GPs and depression - we are living in the 21st Century not the 19th.
You are coming up with a lot of excuses as to why you can't do things eg being averse to physical work because you are thin, there is lots that you can do and maybe being out in the open air will improve your health and mental wellbeing far better than being stuck indoors.
Like I said before - do some volunteering, you are good with money so offer your services as a treasurer to a local friends group. Maybe through volunteering you get offered courses to attend - courses that will give you different qualifications eg bid writing for instance so that you can work with the others in the group to put in bids for lottery funding etc. It is something worthwhile and fulfilling plus you are not wallowing in self-pity.
Freelance work does not give you a regular income, certainly when you first start off but as you build the business you get more regular clients. Freelance work can be very stressful and you work long hours - certainly more than 60hrs a week because it is your business and you want to make it work but it can also be lots of fun.
1) see a GP
2) look at volunteering - where can you help?
3) Look at freelance work
4) Start living because you will be a long time dead.0 -
Are you paying back your student loans?0

It does sound like you are suffering from depressing thoughts, rather than depression itself. You're mentally tired, lost your enthusiasm and motivation. Maybe you did too much too quickly and became blase when it didn't bring the psychological well-being you expected from your hard work.
It sounds like you need to stop doing too much thinking and started to get active again in a way that you do gain some real satisfaction and feel that you are making a difference. Have you ever consider doing something for others? It can be very gratifying in a way you might not have experienced yet.0 -
Start your own company and become a director, OP. Delegate your work to another team and then spend 90% of your working day on here, and the rest on ebay. Worked for me!0

I think it needs more courage than capital to start you own company. How did you do it? Can you please give us a slight overview on the road that you took?0 -
You probably need to find an outlet that combines personal interests with a bit of intellectual challenge and you mentioned that you'd previously worked overseas in teaching.
You could set up as a private tutor locally or part time lecturer in a college of further education - not hugely remunerative but neither would it be minimum wage.
Just a thought....0 -
I also understand where you are coming from. I am currently trying to work out what I want to do with my life. I live in the South-East and work in PR, the pay is good, but I don’t like the hassle or stress. Quite honestly I want an easier life in that respect and have decided that I will be handing in my notice and leaving my job by the end of July.
From there I have no idea what I want to do. I am contemplating doing a few weeks travelling around Eastern Europe and then coming back with hopefully a refreshed mind! What I do know is that I’d rather earn half of what I earn now but enjoy what I do and not feel stressed out.
I do think it is important to have something in your life that gives you purpose and meaning, some people do get that through work, but I don’t (at the moment). One good thing I have found is that I have signed up to run an ultramarathon (52 miles) in July and at the moment that is giving me somewhere to channel my energies! I am really going out for long run, slow runs at the weekend in Kent Countryside!0
