Equitable Life Pension

In the light of the recent announcement by the Chancellor, I would like to cash in my Equitable Life pension and invest some of the money elsewhere. The last valuation in December 2012 showed the Value of guaranteed benefits at £16.5k and Unit-linked retired investments at £9.6k. The Protected Rights investments included in these values are £10.3k With Profits and £6k Unit-linked. I have no other private pensions and will be eligible for a full state pension in 2017.
Should I contact Equitable Life directly or pay a third party to do this for me?

There's nothing to stop you transferring the pension pot elsewhere now.0

You should check whether the transfer value of the pension is as valuable as the guarantees, especially if you transfer the pension early. You may find it difficult to gain sufficient from your reinvestment to make the exercise worthwhile.0
