Just a quick suggestion regarding your pet costs....
I have a gsd with epilespsy, his meds were costing £26 per month however I've managed to reduce this to £11 by getting them online. My vet charges me £13 for a 3 month prescription (rediculous just for a signature but hay ho) I then fax this to the company who distribute the meds a few days later. Might be worth looking into. I'm happy to pm you the website I use if you like.
Secondly is the pet food - do u feed let food or raw? I have two large male gsds - on a raw diet they cost me £40 per month (I was £70 on processed food for them)The bulk of this I get from an abbitoir and chicken factory
Worth looking into going raw if you have an abittoir near you (not for those who are easily squeamish tho :-)
Hope this is of some use
Xx
was also going to suggest perscription from the vets, also as above what do you feed? is it supermarket stuff? or PAH or something, there are lots of very good dried foods that can be bought on line for a lot lessLBM 2 and the OH is onboard sept 12, DMP will start on the 1st November, DFD who cares as longs as it comes:)

Thanks for the tips re costs of medication. I have also been meaning to see if we can get flea treatment cheaper than at the vet. Definitey need to use that - have found out from experience! Started using Advocate last summer as Frontline stopped working. We now feed Bakers complete for small dogs (terriers) plus scraps as a cheaper alternative to quality dry food. Had never thought about raw food - bet they'd prefer it. Not sure I can do the abbatoir:eek:
Ran out of time last night to say that I haven't been to the cinema for more than 5 years. We used to get DVD's a Blockbuster (4 for £10 for the weekend) until they closed - I am missing that. I should add something into the budget for food out - that is a very rare treat nowadays. Instead of takeaways we have the odd frozen pizza or ready meal.
For entertainment I knit (have got loads of wool and projects on the go), read the papers and do the puzzle pages (used to anyway - LOL), walk loads, sell things on eBay and so forth.
My SOA does need some fine tuning (should have something in there for eye tests and prescriptions) but I wanted to get posting so that was my first shot at it.
In terms of putting money away - is it sensible to start doing that even though we are overdrawn. Isn't it better to hit the overdrafts with everything we can until they are gone?
Am going out tonight!! Quiz at the school for charity - £2 entry. Better go and get ready.....0 -

please don't feed Bakers, as well as being expensive its crap, and full of colours banned in human food have a look at this good food and a hell of a lot cheaper than Bakers, they do deliver

Yes - have been told by other folks that feeding the dogs cheap food is like feeding your kids Mac D's every day and expecting them to be calm and well behaved. But we are all having to compromise on what we eat - dogs included. I have looked at the link - I'll need to work out the cost and see if it works out cheaper. Maybe they can send me a sample to see if the dogs will eat it (they are quite particular
).
I don't mind getting flea treatment from poundland as long as it works. Cost me a fortune to rid the house of flea infestation last summer. Think it all started after a close encounter with a hedgehog. Anyway, it was hell and I'm not risking that again.
Can anyone advise on if it's best to start putting away money (for things like car maintenance etc) or just putting as much as you have "spare" into debts each month? I guess the risk in not putting money away is that you get a big bill that you can't pay without using credit.0 -

Cheapest i can find a 15kg sack of Bakers for is £20, champ is £11, can't remember the last time i flead my lot, they have Billy no mates on their food in the summer and i also supplement with garlic powder, we don't have fleas, i wouldn't put anything from the poundland on them. CSJ will send you a sample, but i'll be honest i would expect your dogs to turn their noses up at it, after they've been on Bakers they'll need a couple of days to Detox, Bakers has one of the best marketing departments out there.
By the way i have to be frugal,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i have 5 dogs lol,LBM 2 and the OH is onboard sept 12, DMP will start on the 1st November, DFD who cares as longs as it comes:)

Please do not use Spot On, it is not effective and has known issues which have caused pets to end up in the vet.0 -

5! I thought I was slightly mad getting 2 terriers. If things had been different I may well have had more of them. Have been doing things all my life in two's - kids, hamsters, cats, rabbits, fish and dogs (and credit cards!). Only one OH though - so far anyway
Forgot my glasses today, and had to manage at work without, so am in need of eye rest.
Will get some champ, mix in with the Bakers we have left, and see how we go.
Will continue with Advocate because I know it works (hope you stay flea free - we did for years - still think it was the hedgehog to blame).
Thanks for your advice - much appreciated.0 -

I'd been using Frontline for years (for two cats - now no longer with us - and then the dogs) with no problems. Then last summer we were infested with fleas. The house spray from the vet did nothing and we had to change all our products to get rid of the blighters - I think they have become resistant around here - super fleas!
I really had no idea I'd end up discussing these things when I first posted last weekend!
We are flea free now by the way
