Hello, haven't been on in a while, thought this area of my life was cleared up!
This morning I have received a letter from a debt collection agency looking for 26k in regard to shortfall on my mortgage. I was made BR in January 2009. I stopped paying the mortgage right away, and moved out of the property in April of the same year. I'm a bit shaken. I'm almost certain I'm not liable for this but a little reassurance would be helpful, and advice on what to do. Do I contact them or speak to my AiB. I'm in Scotland. Also, mortgage was joint but my ex partner has not gone BR, will he be liable, should I contact him or give anyone his address?
Thanks in advance.

Also tell your OR they are chasing this, and ask them to write telling the collectors to back off as well.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Your BR means your ex will be pursued for the full amount of the shortfall.
Depending on your personal feelings, you might contact him to warn him of what might come?
However, I would decline from giving any DCA details of your ex's whereabouts....let them do all their own dirty work? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
As above, I'd speak to him to warn him, and make sure he's removed for 192.com etc etc etc; it's a debt collectors favorite tool.
